Telnet: disconnected and fast asleep even on Xmas Day

2009-12-28

“Telnet is your local Internet Services Provider, recognized as St. Maarten’s most reliable Internet Company.” Really?
My internet service from this company works only 40% of the time. It even failed me on Xmas day. Disconnections are frequent and lengthy. Their technicians are few, absent or only available perhaps during weekday office hours.

So woe to any business that needs Telnet services after 5.00 pm or at weekends when their connections are often down. Most reliable?

Why do we become so frustrated with Telnet and all TeLem companies?

The Daily Herald -

PHILIPSBURG--Pieter Drenth will return to the Netherlands today, ending his tenure as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the TelEm Group of Companies. Drenth, who was appointed in July 2008, said he was leaving the island with mixed feelings, but most of all with regret that he would not be able to complete the work he had begun 14 months ago and which he had been on the verge of implementing until a local change of government. “Everyone agrees that the company is overmanned and that restructuring has to take place if the TelEm Group is to survive, but no one will accept the bitter pill of downsizing or rightsizing as the step that must be taken and certainly without many strings attached that management cannot afford,” he also said in what was referred to as an “exit statement to personnel and to the St. Maarten public generally.” [More....]
