Judge releases pregnant mother from police cells
SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - A pregnant mother of 3 was released Monday March 15, 2010, after spending more than 10 days on the floors of the policecells in Philipsburg.
The mother was arrested at the airport on March 4 because it was discovered that her passport and that of her 3 children were false.
SXM working on direct flight out of Germany
PHILIPSBURG - St. Maarten might be able to secure a direct flight from Germany to the island, disclosed Commissioner of Tourism, Frans Richardson. He said he and local tourism stakeholders met with Air Berlin recently while away on tourism related business and there is a prospect that the airline could start direct flights into St. Maarten. SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - Ground breaking for the airport runaway and safety area took place yesterday at the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA). This project will also see the redirection of the airport road, east of the runaway.
Prosecutors will press criminal charges against airport caller
PHILIPSBURG--Prosecutors will press criminal charges against whoever phoned in a false bomb threat to Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) Friday. They expect airlines, Simpson Bay businesses, and even the airport to file civil suits for lost money after a call at 5:47pm about a "security threat" – as officials call it – led to a shut-down of the airport. Bomb scare investigation moves into high gear
SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - the search for the person responsible for Friday's bomb scare at the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) is still on.
Public Prosecutor Reink Mudd stated on Sunday that their initial investigation did not yield the desired result however the investigation will pick up steam on Monday February 22nd 2010.
Airport re-opened after bomb threat on Friday afternoon
PHILIPSBURG - The PJIA re-opened at approximately 10:15 Friday evening after a bomb scare. The initial call is said to have been made at 5:17pm Friday, disrupting incoming and outgoing traffic at the airport as well as vehicular traffic to and from the vicinity of the PJIA. No bomb was found by the authorities after a thorough search. From the governments point the operation was coordinated by Acting Lt. Governor Millicent De Weever, Chief Commissioner of Police Ademar Doran, Chief Public Prosecutor Hans Mos and Airport Director Eugene Holiday.[More....]
Scheduled flights from Latin America to start next month

The biggest achievement of the trip was the announcement of a new scheduled year round flight by GOL Airlines that will originate in Argentina with an intermittent stop in Brazil.

SMNN - Airport: --- The Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) was thrown into darkness for more than an hour on Sunday. According to information reaching SMN News the power box that is connected to the generators failed when electricity from GEBE went off.
Corporate Council reviewing candidates for PJIA boards
The Daily Herald - PHILIPSBURG--The Executive Council is awaiting the advice of the newly appointed Corporate Council on the Executive Council’s recommendations of candidates to serve on both the Supervisory Board of Directors and holding company board of Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA).
The new members recommended for the supervisory board are banker Whitfield Vlaun of FirstCaribbean International Bank, lawyer Melinda Hoeve, The Towers at Mullet Bay manager Rochelle Gumbs and Leo Bromet, who has a background in business management.
