Blue Mall puts US $1M into road improvement
The Daily Herald - CUPECOY--Blue Mall-Blue Residences, a multi-million dollar project in Cupecoy, will pump US $1 million into the upgrading and recreation of a large section of Rhine Road, the main access road to the high-end mall and residences.
Blue Mall developers said this investment was necessary to improve the driving experience and overall safety for residents and island visitors, who ultimately would be shoppers in the mall. The road upgrading will start in the near future.
COM Aborted Road Tax for New Vehicle tax System --- No Information says Gumbs.
SMNN - Marigot: --- President of the MOCSAM Julien Gumbs is once again sounding the alarm about the possible road tax. Gumbs in an exclusive interview with SMN News said that while the window that is supposed to be collecting the road tax is closed since October 2009 to date the Collectivity and its representatives has not seen it fit to update its population on the reason why they stopped collecting the tax which is supposed to be used for road developments.
2010 number plates expected by mid-Feb
PHILIPSBURG--The 2010 number plates are expected on the island by mid-February. Island Receiver Sherry Hazel said, recently, that once the plates are here and have been checked by the department, the public will be informed when they could collect their number plates. She said the plates have to be checked to ensure that the entire order has arrived. Although the public could start paying their 2010 motor vehicle tax, Hazel said motorists are still trickling in to pay. There is usually a rush to pay when the plates arrive.[More....]
Heyliger questions why PJIA can’t give back to community
PHILIPSBURG--Commissioner in charge of Public Works Theo Heyliger has questioned why management of Princess Juliana International Airport can’t give back to the community it serves. The Commissioner was responding to the many complaints and calls about a deplorable stretch of road in Simpson Bay with pleas to repair it post haste.[More....]
Asphalt patch Work 2010.
SMNN - GREAT BAY (GIS) — The Sector of R.O.B., department of Maintenance would hereby like to inform the general public that the patch of potholes will starts as of this week. After carrying out an island wide inventory of all of the potholes, priorities has been set for which area's patching will be executed first. The priority patching will be executed to relieve the traffic congestion and danger to the road users in general.

Bellevue/St. Peters: --- Twenty-Two year- old Leonado Carter better known as Nado is the first person to lose his life on the roads on the French St. Martin. Carter died on the spot on Bellevue road after losing control of his motorcycle on Sunday morning. According to his, mother Valerie Carter her son left home around 7 am to go to the racetrack in Bellevue. She said Leonado built the bike he was riding from scratch as he first ordered a manual and then the parts online to build this bike, which he considered very special.[More....]

PHILIPSBURG - PJIAE on Monday Morning December 21, 2009 took another step in the development of the airport facilities with the opening of the bids from contractors in their presence for the diversion of the eastern airport road, extension of the runway and the implementation of the runway end safety areas (RESAs). Two construction companies – Windward Roads Infrastructure and MNO Vervat St. Maarten – had been invited to bid on the project. [More....]

SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - PJIAE on Monday Morning December 21, 2009 took another step in the development of the airport facilities with the opening of the bids from contractors in their presence for the diversion of the eastern airport road, extension of the runway and the implementation of the runway end safety areas (RESAs).
Two construction companies – Windward Roads Infrastructure and MNO Vervat St. Maarten – had been invited to bid on the project. Based on the bids received Windward Roads Infrastructure offered to carry out the works for NAf. 17,546,900.00 and MNO Vervat St. Maarten offered NAf.16,983,847.00
Cannegieter street and Cayhill road now opened
SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - The Cannegieter street in the vicinity of the Windward Island Bank and the Scotia Bank, was temporarily opened on Friday afternoon.
The road is being opened at this time to facilitate the heavy flow of traffic that Philipsburg and surrounding areas are currently being affected by.
