Everybody knows about the new political thrill. Right?
And aren’t we all DYING to finally see its’ manifesto?
Unfortunately it is yet to make a grand entrée. The bore of waiting and considering the fact that its’ figurehead has never made the slightest greenwashed impression on me, have induced me to extend a helping hand (shown kindness may be applauded here).

USONA, Commissioner H. Richardson sign district program
PHILIPSBURG - On April 7, Commissioner Hyacinth Richardson signed the Usona agreement with the Director Reginald Doran in the present of the Dutch Representative to begin the Integrated Neighborhood Development Program. The first 3 districts where the program will begin are St. Peters, Cole Bay, and Dutch Quarter. Commissioner Richardson gave a short speech at the event.[More....]
Rebuilding Lives: Education is crucial to the rehabilitation of offenders.

Educating young inmates through training in the trade areas of barber, computer repair and tailoring, is a very positive development and a step in the right direction in rehabilitating these persons and making their way back into society as productive citizens. Last week Foundation Judiciary Institutes Windward Islands signed a financial agreement with Dutch-funding agency AMFO for over Naf.155,000 to develop the intervention rehabilitation program based on the aforementioned trade areas. More Monies Needed to Build New Secondary School.
SMNN - Philipsburg:--- Commissioner of Education William Marlin and USONA Director Reginald Doran signed off on two contracts on Wednesday. One of contracts is for the new secondary school, which is to be built in Cay Hill. USONA is providing 5.6 million guilders for the construction of the school while the island government of St. Maarten has to provide the other 5 million guilders to fulfill the entire construction cost. On display were some drawings, which depict the SBO School, which is to be built later. Marlin said 4 million guilders are for the construction of the school while 1.6 is for the preparation of the teachers that would be teaching at that school when it is completed.
Richard collapses in Philipsburg
PHILIPSBURG - It was a pitiful site to see on Monday afternoon at around 1:45pm when Richard, a well known tall drug user, collapsed to the ground apparently suffering from a seizure. Its is not known if he suffers epileptic seizures or a similar disorder but he was observed convulsing in the middle of the Cannegieter Street where he had fallen.[More....]
Inspectorate VSA makes stipulations for supermarkets, grocery stores.
SMNN - GREAT BAY (GIS)—The Inspectorate Department of Public Health, Social Welfare and Labor is intensifying their controls with regards to the labeling of food products.
The managers and owners of all Supermarkets, Grocery stores, Bakeries, Distributors and any other food outlets, should be aware of the law, stipulated as: Landsbesluit, Houdende Algemene Maatregelen, of the 18th of January 2005, Article 3 (1 a, f and j) of the Commodities Act, P.B. 1997 Nr. 334.
Island Government signs off on 9M guilders worth of contracts with USONA
SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - Leader of Government Commissioner William Marlin, fresh back from formation talks in Curacao, Wednesday signed contracts with USONA for financing totaling, 9 million guilders.
The contracts were signed in the presence of finance Commissioner Xavier Blackman, Director of USONA Reginaldo Doran, other governmental officials as well as heads of departments that the financing will cover.
USONA Released 9 million for St. Maarten Projects ---More Low Income Homes on the Way.
SMNN - Philipsburg: --- Director of USONA Reginaldo Doran and leader of government William Marlin signed off four projects on Wednesday. Marlin in his opening statements said all four of the projects are being financed by the Dutch Government through USONA. He said the total costs for all four projects are to the tune of nine million guilders. Parties signed off the project that is geared at enhancing legal affairs department. Marlin said this department needs strengthening since they are the ones responsible for working and giving advice on the legislations for country St. Maarten.
Wage limit for 2010 is Nafl. 4,764,50 and old age pension Nafl. 800,
PHILIPSBURG - Every year the pension and wage limit for Sickness and Accident Insurance (ZV/OV) are adjusted in accordance to the development of the cost of living (price index). The adjustment is based on the increase of price index of August of the preceding year. The Social Insurance Bank in accordance to the law sent a proposal to the central government regarding the increase of the wage limits, old age pension and widows and orphans pension. According to the calculations of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) cost of living increased by 3.6 %. This means that the wage limit for 2010 is Nafl. 4.764,50 per month.[More....]
Community Councils meet and discuss crime in general
SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - Community Councils from across the island of St. Maarten, met on Monday evening to discuss what is perceived as a rising crime problem on the island.
The meeting was a private one and it is not clear what has been agreed on, if any, during Mondays meeting which took place on the Cannegieter Street in Philipsburg.
