Student carries out hair raising attack on Career Fair at PSVE
PHILIPSBURG -One student of the Vocational School was arrested on Friday after placing students and faculty of the St. Maarten Academy PSVE School as well as and the police in danger. This happened during the Career Fair at the school on which got off to a successful start with over 20 companies and entities participating. Registration of Haitian nationals in relation to the Brooks Towers (category 3)
SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - On Monday March 15th, registration will start of illegal Haitian nationals. Wednesday March 31, 2010 will be the last day to register.
The registration will take place from Monday through Friday from 8 in the morning non stop till 4 in the afternoon at the Conference Center of the Salvation Army on the Union Road #59 in Cole Bay.
Island wide power outage caused by short in feeder cable
PHILIPSBURG - A short in one of two feeder cables leading to the Zagersgut Substation triggered a complete blackout on the Dutch side of the island late Sunday afternoon. The emergency protection systems at the Cay Bay Power Plant were triggered completely shutting down the power plant for a number of hours Sunday evening. [More....]
GEBE inaugurates two new engines
SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - Commissioner Theo Heyliger and Lt. Governor of St. Maarten Franklin Richards, joined the celebration on Friday as GEBE inaugurated their two new engines. The ceremony was held on Friday afternoon at the companies Cay bay Power Plant facilities.
Thursday's IC meeting postponed
PHILIPSBURG - The island council of St. Maarten was scheduled to meet on Thursday morning at the Claude Wathey Legislative Hall of the Government Administration Building. However that meeting was postponed due to the lack of a quorum. The meeting was called at the request of the opposition Democratic Party (DP), to discuss issue pertaining to the draft 2010 budget for the island territory.[More....]
Time to invite Geert WILDERS for a 'pep-talk' ?
SXM Island Times - This is to 'compliment' Mr. Jan-Peter BALKANENDE and all those Dutch ministers and parliamentarians, who against the growing public sentiments and fears of the St. Maarten people, have decided to declare the 'Antillean dossier' including the ill-fated constitutional changes 'non-controversial'.
Never mind that there is a growing momentum on the island to have a number of 'outstanding issues' placed in the draft-constitution of 'Country St. Maarten'.
To make matters even worse, even supporters of '10-10-10' are becoming extremely worried about the very ominous consequences of statements made by members of the ruling St. Maarten Government that in 'Country St. Maarten' there will be no (more) separation of 'State and Church', which has opened a 'Pandora box' for religious violence on the island, which can easily spread to mainland Holland.
Jacoba Reassures Officers At Information Session
PHILIPSBURG - Justice Minister Magali Jacoba spent Wednesday afternoon updating Police & Immigration Officers on the ongoing Dismantling Process. The meeting was held at the request of both the Antillean Police Union (NAPB) and the ABVO Union. One of the main concerns is the legal position of the officers as and after the transition is made to Country Status for both Curacao & St. Maarten. The Minister says those concerns can only be addressed by the Island Territory because the responsibility is being handed over by the Central Government.[More....]
Frans Richardson; this is not about politics for me

SXM Island Times - PHILIPSBURG - The SHTA believes that the Executive Council has set a dangerous premise by stating that the State and Church are not separate.
Furthermore, Government has opened the door for every denomination (Catholic, Hindu, Jewish etc) to seek similar funding for their establishments.

The SHTA tried contacting Commissioner Frans Richardson and Lt. Governor Richards to get some insight into this decision, but they were both unavailable.
