Has the commissioner taken any of the following into consideration?
1. work permits ought to be issued when there is absolutely no qualified antillian to fill the position, not issued solely because it is requested.
2. The annual renewal of the work permit ensures that the government is receiving a steady influx of revenue.
3. "Stress free" is not what should be sought after, especially when it comes to the matter of dealing with immigrants and employment on the island that is already experiencing an overload of illegal immigrants.

Mr. Laveist is seeking the easy way out and is thereby creating a terrible situation for the young people who were born on this island and need to be employed. Not only is this a quick solution to a problem that is already out of control, but the people who are backing this stupid plan have already established themselves in society and could care less of what the future holds.

The things that are being accepted within government without any protest from the general public is becoming quite ridiculous. He is also stating that he is cognisant of the fact that employees have been paying for their permits while this is the job of the employer. Yet these things go unpunished and brushed off. What we lack in understanding is that immigrants will continue flocking to St. Maarten because of the slack laws, seek employment, obtain it and then suck our economy dry.

As is known, Western Union is flooded with every nation after "pay day", which indicates that the money generated within the country is not staying there, and once these people have had enough, they return to their own and leave St. Maarten economically drained.

People, think before electing individuals such as this man who have not taken the time to realise that the long term effect of their foolish laws will leave the country in shambles.
