SMNN today.....
MARIGOT— Two days from today will mark one year since Angélique Chauvire went missing , the woman who is a French national mutilated body was found in the Dawn Beach area days later. The murder of the woman created some havoc in the community a year ago , but to date no one has been arrested and charged for what has been described as the most brutal killing on St. Maarten.

Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein said the case was turned over to the French authorities with the intention that the Dutch law enforcement would co-operate with the investigation. Stein when contacted said he did not have any new information and was not aware of any new development in the case. Capitaine Pascal Lalouat confirmed that despite no break in the Angélique Chauvire murder case, is far from being solved.
“We continue to work on leads, but up to now our investigations have not come up with the proof that we need,” he said. “But both the French and Dutch sides are co operating on the case.”
The body of 30-year-old Angélique Chauvire was found by hikers in Dawn Beach on June 2 2006. Earlier she had been reported missing and her car found vandalised in French Cul-de-Sac. The brutal nature of the murder, confirmed by the autopsy, shocked the community.
Angélique Chauvire was a popular individual and had been living on the island for seven years in Grand Case. She worked at a boutique in Orient Bay. Her parents had come to visit her on vacation when the news of the murder broke, only to return to France with her body.
Friends of Angélique’s and sympathisers joined her parents in an organised march against violence through Marigot on June 8. The procession was led by her parents and First Deputy Mayor Jean-Luc Hamlet.
