jabiru, at the party for Angie mémory at friar's bay, you say I know who make that, i know who make that, but I cant tell it because I'm a reporter, like somebody say it a friars bay ' of all people who have nothing to say, the most interesting are the people who close their mouth"

Difficult to understand
Flipper | Wed, 2006-08-09 10:48

what exactly uou are saying here anonymous, I realise English may not be your first language. You seem to suggest that some people know much more than they are telling, yourself included.

I will say this, it's one thing for a reporter to keep information confidential when it comes to a source revealing crimes, but something very different to do so when it could be protecting or helping those who commit them.

Both the French and Dutch side authorities should be questioned about the status of this investigatiion, because it seems there are plenty of leads out there. Anyone hiding information leading to those who committed it are as bad themselves.

Hi Jabiru,

There are many people here who would like to know more about the Angelique case, myself included. We hear nothing on the Dutch side and it appears all the investigating is being done by the French Authorities.

I had a look at your blog and wish I coud understand more of it than I do, I must commend you, particulrly on your focus on arts, history and people. I was unable to find an English article about Angelique though, could you please post the link again, but directly to the article.

Welcome to the blogging community of our little island in the sun.

The Baobab tree also hears, the rumours of the jealousy, spite, revenge, the most common medisance and among all, that of the prejuges, the fear or ignorance... At the village of the French District, locates between Grand Puts and the place of the crime, or Angelique Chauvire has ete assassinee by "Hardware Core criminals", the rumour is repandue... District of Orleans, French Quarter, the villagers sing Gospel in English there. A dozen small churches, or weave the basic bonds of Friendly Island. Love towards God and his next, the respect of the other.... - It is this insane dangerous, Rellig Beauperthuis, which made the blow murmur the inhabitants of the village. Of Beauperthuis, there is it more than one about thirty, which blocks the successions foncieres this family at the noble origins of the Kingdom has the flower of Lily, flower of Orleans. Rellig is very dangerous, it already made 15 years of prison closes, it is a recidivist, this time it is cooked... the gendarmes heard it. Such an amount of better I would not be any more afraid " - "Me, one said that it it is itself to me delivers has the Police force" - "Not you confuse it is a young person of the district"

Jabiru.blog.lemonade

What does this mean?

(I have absolutely no idea. Did you find it on the blog that you put the link to and did you use babelfish or something similar to translate it? I can't find it there myself and I also don't speak great French. Anyone?? - Flipper)

I don't speak french,
Gracie | Thu, 2006-07-06 23:22

I don't speak french, and I know this sounds like jibberish, but lets look closly. I think this person is saying he has heard gossip (medisance). I think he is describling the location possibly of the gossip or where the person stays (I'm unclear)

He goes on to say the ete (masculine) assassin is a hard criminal. I think possible he is saying Rellig Beauperthuis is the criminals name, and that he made the blow to kill Angie.

Next he is saying the possible successions (progress) is being blocked because the criminals family is of importance.

The writer is saying that Rellig has spent about 15 yrs in prison already. Says he is a recidivist (habitual criminal).

Cooked can mean to alter or falsify, gendames means, member of the french law enforcement.

What I believe this person is trying to say is....There are many rumors that go around in the French District. Many are just over petty things, but there is also the rumor that Rellig Beauperthuis has commit this horrible crime. He is a habitual criminal but, this time the progressing of the investigation is being blocked or falsified by the french police because he comes from a family of importance. Rellig is a very dangerous man. The writer is afraid.

I'm guessing the link has a photo of the criminal or of his family. Just a guess as I stated I don't speak french.

Gave it my best shot :)

it could also be that someone is trying to frame Relique
Anonymous (not verified) | Fri, 2006-07-07 21:16

I too heard this rumour since right after the murder.
I inquired and found out that the murdered girl hung out with the wrong kind of bad boys in French Quarter. Young boys.

Relique is an old 80 year old man, who indeed spent time in prison many years ago for murdering a man on a beach. The crime he commited happened in the late sixties, early seventies. From the stories being circulated, The French have or had a young boy in custody who they suspected of the crime.

Could it be that someone is trying to pin this on an old man with a past? I have not heard anywhere that this murdered girl hung out with Relique, instead it seems that she hung out with boys in the hood, boys doing drugs. Unless of course the young men are related to Relique and that is the connection.
But young criminals nowadays are proffessional lyers, they can lie and make up such stories and fabricate more lies.

Maybe this whole rasta/french/babel fish is just a trick to switch the story.

Relique
Anonymous (not verified) | Sat, 2006-07-08 16:42

Reliques story is well known. back in the late 60,s he came across a tourist couple on Orient Bay beach. He killed the man and beat and raped the woman leaving her for dead. She survived and testified against him. He went down for 15 years. But even before this crime he was regarded with much suspicion as a killer. It seems he had a girlfriend before that, some say she was a local girl others she was from Guadeloupian who disapeared suddenly and strangely, none of her family or friends heared of her again. Right now this old man has a boat and does some fishing or something. I think too think this cryptic note is just a rumour trying to smear him. The latest I heard is police have some young guy from the dutch side in custody, he is a known criminal .

If you see something say something
Anonymous (not verified) | Fri, 2006-07-07 07:58

I posted what I found on a rogue website. I used babel to translate it. Thanks to Flipper for putting it out there. It probably is just rumour in print but any clues to what happened should be looked at. It was found in the link in the June articles.

Angelique savage murder
Carmencita (not verified) | Tue, 2006-06-06 01:49

One more savage murder in SXM .

One too many.

Angelique was tortured , disfigured , her body ravaged by beasts.

A young life was taken away by wild animals, this is yet another sign of the deep moral degradation of this Island.

Many Countries have lost their gloss and their main source of income just by having this kind of behaviour running lose and umponished .

If we are now all afraid to drive after certain ours of the evening in many areas of the Island, if our children are molested at the exit of the discoteque and we have to fear every day for their safety, worrying when they go to school ,what is left there to justify earning a living in a place where we are no longer safe.

Angelique murder is every body business , we have to mobilitate ourself and make an Island wide march.

L'ets all pray for her and her family.

L'ets all pray for the entire Island ,

If this violent trend is allowed to continue one more minute we are all doomed.

God save us all!

We will miss you Angie ...
Anonymous (not verified) | Tue, 2006-06-06 16:37

I just heard the horrific news today about Angie, from a friend of mine. Both of us have a place on the Island and know Angie from Orient for years. After my friend's wife died suddenly Angie was there for him and helped him deal with his tragic loss. I know he would do the same for Angie's family and friends.
The police and govenment should be ashamed of them selves for the lack of follow through on serious crimes like this, as well as everyday crimes that happen constantly. When even serious crimes happen you pretty much never get the police to come to the scene, and forget about any follow up. And you know what, every criminal knows it. No wonder things like what happened by Bamboo Bernies happen, and happen to often.
To the Police and Govenment, when you get home look in the mirror, staring at you is the one to blame. You have an obligation and responsibility to the residents and tourists, to be proactive and make St Maarten be a safer place. Next time it might be some you love.

I would like to pray for Angie:
Father God
Thank You for this loving and caring young woman.
May you wrap her in your presence and accept her in your Kingdom.
Give her love and mercy for evermore.
May you bless her family and freinds, in this time of morning.
Give them the stegnth and pick them up as they are falling.
Wipe the tears from their eyes and bless them with you almighty love.
Give them the stegnth for forgiveness, so that this doen't not become a stummbling block on the path to you.
In the name of the Prince of Peace,
Our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ
Amen

Tear down that wall, Mr Taco!
Local Hero | Tue, 2006-06-06 02:35

This case absolutley involves the whole island, the articles give the impression that the DS are passing the case onto the FS because it's their citizen. It matters nothing, she was found on the DS and there should be equal sharing and total cooperation. Nothing less is acceptable Mr Stein.

The DS must play an active role in investigating this crime, they must in no way be allowed to "pass it on" to the FS. We must demand an investigation that uses all methods to track down the individual/s that committed this crime, DNA and forensics for example. My heart sinks to think if we even have a highly trained forensic team on the island, to wonder if the site has been searched thoughly, if tissue samples or DNA that might help solve the case have been taken or preserved. Does the FS have such a team?

And if not, WHY NOT?

It's time for the Dutch to take a good long look at our law enforcement resources and capabilites, it's operations and it's management. It's not often I agree with the Today Newspaper Editorial but today they got on the same page as I, particularly this line.

"Things must get better before we get seperate status."

Today Editorial - Dick has his hands full - 5th June 2006

I would just add that this goes for just about all government departments.

I feel safe!
Gracie | Wed, 2006-06-07 11:02

It saddens me to see such a young life taken. I wish to offer my sympathy to Angie's family and friends.

Knowing how speedy the police were with solving the Jefferson/Ryan case (and all the evidence they had), I can say I feel safe knowing this case will be closed in the same amount of time especially since it too involves the DS/FS.

Unconfirmed rumors
Local Hero | Fri, 2006-06-09 18:16

Heard today -

3 or more were involved with this horrific crime, one of whom is about 16.

One of them had what might be called a "thing" for Angelique and when spurned may have had difficulty with rejection.

It is my understanding that the 16yr old is detained and singing.

These are unconfirmed rumors, they may not be factual.. I just thought I should pass them on to you readers. It maybe that this crime might get solved, quickly for a change.

Again, we are getting many visitors from France. Please, if you can, update us on any reports in the French Press. Thank you.

LH

What is quickly?
Gracie | Fri, 2006-06-09 19:50

I would love to see this crime solved in record time but, from everything I see and read nothing ever happens quickly on the island...Unless 2-3 months or more is considered quickly.

Taco dispells rumors
Flipper | Sun, 2006-06-11 08:21

Dutch side prosecutor dispells rumors about Angelique arrests - 10th June 2006

Or perhaps the French are getting it translated into Dutch before they pass anything on. Who knows, it seems like a cruel comedy soap opera sometimes, doesn't it?

Wait till Nancy Grace gets hold of this ---
Anonymous (not verified) | Sun, 2006-06-11 12:43

Yes, it's a sad, sad, soap opera. Wait till the "reality" TV shows combine the assault on Jefferson and Ryan with the torture-murder of Angeline Chauvire. Then mix in a couple of spoonfuls of the as-yet unsolved Natalee Holloway case (Aruba? St. Maarten?? Aren't they all the same place???) together with the glossy magazine articles that are undoubtedly already underway. One of these days, thanks to the inaction and ineptness of the local politicians and the police on both sides of our island all those new condos under construction --- not to mention the airport terminal --- will be empty and forlorn.

Perfect for crime
Gracie | Sun, 2006-06-11 21:08

This island is the perfect place for crime. All you have to do is commit the crime on one side and run to the other. You are guaranteed two or three months to get off the island. You have time to book a hotel, rent a car, and even get a passport.

Instead of worrying about what she did three to four months ago (most people can't remember what they did last week, let alone what someone else did) start closer to the date she disappeared. This way the evidence is still fresh.

I think the police force here is lazy. They make many excuses as to why an investigation takes so long. Now on top of this murder another crime has been commited. A person (thought to be a tourist) was found with a bullet wound to the back. I'm wondering what the police force will do, two crimes to solve at once.

and why have we heard no more about the man found shot?
Anonymous (not verified) | Mon, 2006-06-12 14:46

and why have we heard no more about the man found shot in the back?
not a word.
not a word on his condition. not a word on the investigation.
Is this the fault of the police information service, the prosecutor's office or the newspapers?
whatever or whoever.. we the public are not getting accurate and quick information, which we have every right to expect.

Is there an investigation?
Gracie | Mon, 2006-06-12 19:55

Well, you probably haven't heard anything else about the investigation because there isn't one, and I'm not convinced the local reporters know how to follow through with finding all the facts. I'll bet no one has even been to the hospital to ask a question. Not the police not even a reporter.

The actual article was quit small to begin with my guess is the police were hoping no one would notice another tourist had been beaten/shot.

It would be nice to have a reporter who knew how to do his/her job because, we can't count on the police to do theirs.

American Shot
Anonymous (not verified) | Tue, 2006-06-20 14:07

I know the American that was shot in the back. He's a friend of mine who had recently moved to St Maarten. He'll be fine. It just sucks that it happened. He said the police said two other people had recently been attacked, one of whom had died. I think the FBI should be involved.

Happy your friend is fine!
Gracie | Wed, 2006-06-21 16:10

First I would like to say I'm glad to hear your friend is going to be fine.
I don't mean to sound heartless but the FBI? Some how I just don't see them taking the time for this sort of thing.

However, you did say your friend has moved to the island, which means he is at the mercy of the local police department. If your friend is going to stay he may want to research this site for articles on the police, this will give him an idea about how crime is resolved here on the island.

Scream for Marechaussee
Anonymous (not verified) | Sun, 2006-06-25 08:42

Bring in the Royal Dutch Marechaussee. A real fine police-force which can do the job on the island. They already did it in the past and can do it again.
