Donations - SXM Private Eye - Pay Pal

Donations

SXM Private Eye is a 'Non-Profit' site, won't find it registered anywhere and you have to take our word for it I'm afraid. What we will do is publicly keep you informed of what does come in and how it is used in regular updates, which you will find at the bottom of this page.

1/ One of the most valuable aspects of this site is its library of news reports, clippings, comments and photos, over 10,000 of them now, since May 2005. Keeping this up-to-date is also the most time consuming aspect of the work involved with SXM PE. Volunteers have helped up to now, but it's a big struggle.

It is our hope that donations will perhaps allow us to pay someone a little something every now and then to do this for us, a few hours a week, particularly the scanning and preparing of the newsprint images. The library is recorded history online, we think it is very important to keep this as up to date and as comprehensive as we can.

2/ Hosting and bandwidth does cost and the cost is likely to grow. There are yearly amounts that need to be paid. This will increase if we realise our dreams to start posting video clips and reports online as well. .

3/ Upgrading and improving the site. It is our intention to continually improve SXM PE. New features will be added, and we would like to be able to start posting the occasional video clip or story, too. All of this means paying technicians to carry out the improvements and to train the editors.

Making a Donation
.
Clicking the Donation button will take you to Pay Pal where you can make a simple straightforward donation to SXM PE.

If you want to make a donation to any of the Foundations listed in the SXM PE "I Care" shop then you will need to send us an email at the same time with details of who to, the amount and at what time you made the donation. We will pass it on for you, minus the pay pal commission costs.

A Shop will eventually be opened. The same system will apply, you will need to email us the donation information and the items you wish to order. More information on this will come when it opens.

Suggestions and ideas for t-shirt and bumper sticker logos or slogans are also welcome as donations (Commission for copywrite won't be paid!) Feel free to submit them in a comment below.

Thanks so much for your support.

I would like to thank SXM PE for all the hard work they put into the site. Not only for the physical work that is done but for the dedication on a daily basis.
This site has become a wonderful source of information plus has helped bring to light many issues for the locals as well as the island as a whole.
Running a site like this requires many hours to gather and add information, all of which are unpaid.
I hope my donation will help further the cause of the site. I look forward to seeing it grow.

good move

Dont feel bad about it. it is a good move and you have done a tremendous job with this site. I only hope that more people in organization like this can and or are willing to come out as you did. Keep ur accounting within the boundaries of good accounting principles because you know people dont like the truth. Again congrats and thanks for keeping all of us informed.

SXM PRIVATE EYE has become a great archive site

Flipper and others, I too thank you very much for taking the initiative to start this site and keep on hosting it. The SXM PE has become the archive site for the local environmental groups and for others doing research and looking for information. I too understand that hosting this site and making time out of your schedule to cut out newspaper articles, your use of scanners and your computers costs money and time.

I have personally seen articles taken from the SXM PE website sitting on desks in government offices, which means they too are using the site for reference.
I have referred many of the students who call me seeking information for pictures and old articles on Red Pond, Dawn beach, oil spills etc, to visit the site.

I think this site has helped the environmental groups tremendously by showing more the hardhitting facts of environmental destructions happening on the island. I do hope people see the need to support and donate to keeping the site alive, and I know it will be difficult as most people just seem to take environmental groups, and the activism for granted, thinking that volunteers can continue to keep the drive going without any funds.

So congrats, I will continue contributing to the environmental thread for the sake of keeping people informed and hopefully change peoples attitude from being complacent towards appreciating the natural beautiful environment around them. I do hope that more people will donate to this site to keep it alive, and donate also to the local environmental groups.

If one cannot donate with cash, please donate in kind, trees, plants, school materials to give to schools when they complete a cleanup, rakes, trash bags, gloves, all can go a long way with helping us to continue with the environmental cause.

Thank you to those few that have made a donation to SXM PE, they will help a great deal, considering my monitor just fizzled out on me (literally) and the website hosting bill has just arrived. My computer is also on it's last legs too, being 4 1/2 years old, which is a constant worry for me.

Anyway, we all get by as best we can, thank you all for your kind words and donations if you made one, or plan to. And even if you'd like to but can't, it's the thought that counts.

Please keep making your comments, it's you all that helps keep the site interesting too.

Donations-Information

Hey!

About 6 years ago I became addicted to SXM travel and now come down 6 times per year.

Well, if you're spending 2 to 3 months a year in a place you should know more about what's going on then restaurant and timeshare news.

This blog and communication with FD have given me the insight and knowledge to see SXM in a different manner from most tourists. There are many layers to Caribbean society and politics and astute readers will find all the necessary information here to allow them to view layers seldom seen by tourists. This information will make your trip more enjoyable and perhaps safer.

The site is open minded and a level of social consciousness is exhibited daily. Some issues are brought to light that we won't read about elsewhere.

In short; this is a worthy place to support with a generous donation. Send what you can afford so that Flipper and the blog can grow into a household word on Island and off. Valid information is priceless, and you can get it here free.

This is one place you can really feel comfortable about sending some $$$$.

Thanks and travel safe!
