The Perks of Merx

"It is obvious that deals like these are not closed on paper, “because in cases like this things are not dealt with in that way,” Bloem said.

It has been reported to me that deals of this nature are settled upon with a thumbs over grasp followed by a hooking of fingers and a punching of fists, sealed with a thump to the chest with the fist. No witnesses to this "deal" have yet come forwards. Merx's trial is now set for June.

Merx

Strange how it was know in the profession that before the man left the island last year, that he would return some time later in the year. Also strange how good men go bad with what a woman can cover with one arm and a hand. Marcus Antonius lost the Roman Empire because of what Cleopatra could cover with hers....

Sad state of affairs. The sooner this comes to an end the better it is. We do not need thiese doubts about prosecutors on this island.

strange?

it is true, when Merx was given his marching orders, or should we say his medical leave of absence, it was already heard around the legal circles that he had applied for a job with Gibson. Many believe that Gibson and Ferrier are the ones that brought him back with a beautiful promise of becoming SXM first Prosecutor General. Gibson felt pretty confident of himself that he would be in charge with his Minister position for quite some time more.

But good man gone bad???? how are we so sure that he was a good man to start with? Are you very sure that our secret service did their job well? How is it possible then that Curacao and Aruba and now SXM has had their share of questionable prosecutors? Could it be that Holland is sending us (the Antilles) their crap that they would like to get rid of?
Remember, it is very difficult getting qualified people to come to the Antilles. Why should they if they have already made a name for themselves in Holland? The Antilles is small time for them.

And the woman.... My belief is that Merx did much more on his own in his office, side tracking his superiours that has nothing to do with a woman. However, it could be a very delicate situation for the prosecutors to bring up, as it might show that his bosses were not paying attention.

The jealousy part of him using his powers to obtain confidential phone records of his then girlfriend, of which he used his secretary to fill out the form stating that that number of his girlfirend was in connection with a criminal drug case is only a small part of the investigation. He has already admitted to that part, stating that he did it out of jealousy. However, that is fraudelent and if he did this, what else could he have done? How many other people/criminals might be in jail because Merx did some stupid thing fraudelently to keep them in jail while they might be innocent?

And also?? How many other people was he supposed to investigate that he deliberatly failed to do because he was friends with them? Or he was being payed off? I am guessing that the prosecutors have more up their sleeve and we haven't heard most of it as yet. The girlfriend thing he already admitted to, that could be small time if the prosecutors get facts on the other stuff.

However, some things might be delicate as it would jeopordise the Prosecutors General office and who they were trying to investigate.
Here is a hint..... a certain construction company was recently investigated, some say this was one of the companies Merx refused to investigate. when he was in office (ehum).

Also, it is true that L.C. Fleming brought criminal charges against M.Ferrier, Merx made a decision in one day that those charges were irrelevant. (???)
I must applaud the Radio Soualiga for being the first one to bring this issue to light with a certain letter that was leaked, I know some media houses would have buried this leaked letter, and we the people would never have known the truth.

This ego-centric man would have come back with his hat taken his place in our society and continue with his favoritism, and eventually holding down a top judicial job playing politics for certain influential people.

What more can you say?? you have already said it for all of us Flipper.
Deals of this nature? Bloem has already pushed himself in a hole, so Merx never left because of health reasons right? Just as we smart SXMners already knew.
And what is up with Michael Ferrier? He is absolutly making himself look like a fool by having his picture taken outside courthouse with Merx and lawyer.
It's everyone's guess that Merx took good care of him when he refused to bring criminal charges aganst Ferrier a few years ago -these charges were brought against Ferrier by his ex-bussines partner L.C.Fleming. I remember L.C.Fleming making statements back then, maybe he should refresh our memory again.

It has always been my opinion that those in a top judicial positions who break or abuse laws as Merx has admitted to, should have the book thrown at them. He should know better for one thing and he has also put not only the prosecutors office into a bad light but also those of the ministers and attorney general.

And don't forget the fire!! I too believe this case has much more to reveal, but what we hear will depend on whether more "deals" are made or not I guess.

This is the normal scenario on the island. Unless we get people in postition who has the integrity and the knowledge to make a difference we will continue to suffer these abuses.
Obviously our people are not ready for "real" freedom. The slave mentality is still there. I do hope that within the new upcoming generations we find youngsters who have character and integerity and the drive to make a difference for this island.

Merx case heats up

The judge in the case ruled that Attorney General Piar and Prosecutor De Vrieze will be called to testify in the Merx case.

So, let me get this straight. One of the apparently minor complaints against Merx is that he freed prisoners early without authorisation. I have a question for the legal minded out there.

Is the amnesty apparently offered to Merx legal? Does the AG have the authority to make such a under the table deal?

See what happens when a bad man brings good people down?
De Vrieze testifying will not be in Merx's corner, for sure. Merx was his superior, and he had to follow orders.
As for the Attorney General, if it was verbal amnesty offered to Merx, and there is no letter, no tape proving such, well Bloem has a weak case.
Unless the defendant makes up his own fraudulent case, we will see what he will say when it comes to the early release of prisoners that he did not authorise Merx do do.
Do not forget that Merx already confirmed that he did so without authorisation of his bosses. He made this statement on a Julian Rollocks radio show when he had just come back from Holland to work with Gibson.
On this radio show, Rollocks had the heat up on Merx asking him why he came back ,and he asked him about the alleged letter that came from Piar, a letter outlining the reasons why AG had no faith in Merx anymore.
