Difficult to vote for just one,
the first 8 all take the vote.

It is difficult.

I also want to vote for more than one, lol.

Perhaps SXM PE should add a couple more polls so we could all have the pleasure of voting for more than one corrupt politician. In some strange way it feels like letting the others get away with it by just being able to vote for one.

I know I may have missed one or two

Can anyone tell me if this is true?
DBPrincess | Wed, 2006-01-04 19:35

A friend reminded me the other day about something I had heard long ago. That Claude Wathey, on a radio show once said:

"That Theo, he ain't no darn good"

True or false?

never heard of it
Anonymous (not verified) | Thu, 2006-01-05 17:04

I have never heard any such thing.
Besides, Theo was a child when Claude was in his days.
When Theo started out in politics, his grandfather did ask all the folks to support him. You have to remember that Mr.Heyliger is only in his early thirties.
If I am not mistaken, he was the youngest politician ever elected.

But then again, eventhough Claude is considered one of our local heroes, he was no damn good either. Not for the environment, not for culture, not for heritage. Because of Claude, he made sxm a successful tourist island, also by inviting the interantional mafia to the island to set up shop.

Think of the Spadaro's, the Corallo's, the mafia people from long time ago Casino Kalliste, New York Mafia who had the Sint Martin Beach Club on frontstreet. Claude actaully encouraged the sales and destruction of our heritage sites like the Fort Amsterdam, the Belair pond, the old sxm houses on Frontstreet, the destruction of the Great Salt Pond.
So there,

I hope history will be written correctly.

You seem pretty certain
DBPrincess | Fri, 2006-01-06 22:43

that it didn't happen and you could well be right. So far I have one person whom I know saying it's true and another which I don't know saying not. I hope you don't mind if I leave the possibility open until more people comment here. I kind of doubt it myself because something like that would not be "forgotten" each time an election comes around.

I agree of course with your assesment of Claude, the super pimp of the island who started the train rolling and neglected to ensure there were some brakes. My own feeling/opinion is that it has to stop, this free for all uninhibited development boom. There comes a time when you hold back and instead of adding more to what you have, you spend your time, and money, improving upon it. The current administration has no vision of the future of the island, they see only as far as Status Apart. Those of us looking further do not like what we see, people come here for many reasons but one of the main ones is the beauty of the island, which is being destroyed.

I also do not like the idea of Status Apart with the same bunch running the show. Marlin, Laveist, Theo and Meyers have all shown traits of authoritariamism and arrogance and I sincerely hope Gracita's party gets enough voted for 2 seats, not just one. I want to see government transparency and anti corruption policies and laws put in place and I don't feel the DP have that high on their to do list before SA Day. Hell, these people have buried Franklins Code of Conduct for over 3 years now, they have no interest in such nonsense.

Roy Moron keeps on saying the opposition and those opposed to his grand development projects are anti development, people with hidden agendas. He is such a dumbass. I mean really, he is a total embarrassment as an Environmental Commissioner and his only defence is the "anti development" card and the "nationalist" card. The second is ironic really, because he himself has never really shown any genuine love of St. Maarten, it's nature, history or culture whilst in office.

For example it is known that the Exco sent a letter to Henri Brookson indicating their welcoming arms to the development before it became publicly known. The only member who expressed any concern was Laveist who said something like "it would stir up local emotions". The rest were eager to hear more.

Anyway, I'm straying off track, it's been a while since I wrote here and there is so much I want to bitch about. I'll assume the statement from Claude is an urban myth of sorts, unless someone else knows better, and perhaps also has an audio recording? Now wouldn't that be someting!
