Murky Merx - Lost in translation.

You wouldn't be human if you didn't feel something a little like pity for Cor Merx over his recent legal problems, afterall, love does make people do silly and/or crazy things, perhaps we can be thankful that this is not a murder/suicide sort of case.

However, what he did was stalking and he abused his powers as Chief Prosecutor. He also lies and works (worked?) for a high profile DP member, Minister of Constitutional Affairs, Richard Gibson. Please stay tuned.

If you've been following the Merx Story in the two local papers you will probably have the impression that it's all about his jealousy and how he abused his powers as Chief Prosecutor to stalk and spy on his ex girlfriend. De Telegraaf 17th December 2005 article suggests there is more to it. You can now find a translation here.

Many thanks to the person who did that by the way. I don't supose you'd be interested in keeping an eye on the Dutch press and perhaps translate other interesting items about the island? I and I'm sure many readers would love to learn more about the Dutch book "The Cess Pit" I think it's called, about possible construction scandles involving certain commissioners.

It would seem that there are also questions about Cor's house in Dawn Beach and possible sketchy deals with construction companies, perhaps there are connections that might be found in that book. You've got to be pretty blind to not see how corrupt the whole government system is, how investors are favored over the local community and how favors are bought. According to the Telegraaf, one finanicial expert calls St. Maarten "a pirate island".

I've mentioned my own thoughts on this in the past, Frankie got it completely mixed up recently when he denied he was a "Political Whore", he's actually a "Political Pimp" and is treating St. Maarten like a whore.

Anyway, we will follow the story where it leads as best we can via the local press and with comments and discussion below. Feel free to discuss and share your thoughts of nuggets of information too, anonymously or not.

Oh, about the lying. Cor Merx claimed many times on radio and in the press that he had done nothing wrong, that rumors going around were false. Not false enough to stop charges to be bought against him it seems.

I received this link to an article about Merx in a Dutch Puiblication. Sadly there was no translation or hint to what it's about. Perhaps one you kind Dutch speaking readers out there would give us a clue?

Basic translation: suspect in the antilles appointed or nominated. i did not read the complete story but apparently the appointment of a position was pending or is going on in Holland. I regret the situation with him as he is also a human being. Nevertheless the law is the law. I also have a case against him for starting a false investigation against my person. All the docments are still at the department of Justice and I am awaiting some feedback. All the above in connection with the Home of Children in Union Farm. My web-site is in the make and all the relevant documents will be there for viewing by the public.
