SMNN -

Philipsburg: --- With the reports from SOAB now in the open SMN News has learnt that the head of the permits department at ROB Mr. Guy Gumbs has submitted his resignation from that department. Sources say that the department head has claimed that he has health conditions and as such, he can no longer hold the position (head of permits) thus he resigns with immediate effect. Gumbs submitted his letter to general affairs on January 25th 2010. He also requested that the executive council reinstate him to his former position as project manager at the department of New Projects and Beheerdienst with the same legal position prior to his departure in April 2009. The letter was sent to the executive council and copied to Commissioner Theo Heyliger. SMN News managed to retrieve a copy of a memo Gumbs sent to the director of ROB Mr. Joseph Dollison on August 31 2009 informing him that he would not be signing the permits for Olzina N.V. belonging to Samir Andreos.[More....]

Mr Gumbs did the right thing to expose those who wanted him to take the heat for signing off on dubious permits. Why should Guy become the scapegoat? His refusal to sign off should be an example to all. I can't image the stress that this gentleman endured during his time as head of permits, no wonder his health deteriarated.
SOAB should go back in and demand to see how the permits where written for Olzina, Blue Mall, Duck, and Travel inn in Billy Folly. Somehow most of these documents dissapeared, gone. There must be a paper trail. Maybe Mr. Gumbs could shed some light. Mr Commissioner responsible for ROB, do your job and fix the problem.

For this honourable stance, they should appoint Ing. Guy Gumbs as the new Head of ROB. I am certain will do a good job in cleaning up the mess there.

When will we stop the victimization of our own local educated professionals who have returned to our island to make their contribution?

To those in power: please bring back some honour and dignity in government so that people can serve and do their jobs.

Theo Heyliger, do your job and clean up you all (DP) mess!!!!

What are the costs of a 1person oneway ticket on the Chinese space program 2 the moon?

That reminds me of a radio show when I was young. It was called "one way ticket" and listeners could call in to the show and explain why they would like to give someone a one way ticket to far away. A panel would then discuss all the entries and decide who had won. Many people received one way train tickets to remote places in Russia or worse. It was actually quite entertaining. I would send the Lt. Gov with a one way ticket to Jo'burg South Africa, the country with the highest murder and robberies rate in the world. He seems to like that. What we experience lately on Sint Maarten is unheard of. Kids shooting and stabbing eachother, illegal immigrants murdering our businessman and police officers derailing and killing people. And what is his response as our civic father and local chief of police? You tell me. Sofar his silence is deafening. Not a single word of comfort or plan how he is going to tackle this. It is a typical Sint Maarten style approach. Hope it blows over and move on.
