A New Crew at the Helm?

Well, here we are, June 8th and a new crew is taking over the helm of SS SXM. While I myself am a skeptic about just how much things are going to change, I am willing to give the new government a little bit of leeway, a honeymoon if you like. As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding, and we still don't have a clear picture of what the ingredients of this new government's policies and programs are going to be.

My skepticism arises from the inclusion of 'King' Theo, who not only keeps the portfolio's he previously held, but is also now the deputy leader of government. Considering that this new government now relies completely upon his (and Laveist's) support, it would seem that he has a great deal of influence over what those policies and programs will be, ergo it seems logical to suspect that his Ring Road and new Harbor plans are going to part of this government's program.

It's no secret that I and others here are opposed to both these projects, considering them a huge waste of money that should be directed to other areas of need on the island. The Ring Road in particular does nothing to resolve the underlying causes of traffic congestion and does nothing to create long term jobs. Theo's interests in both road building and harbor are well documented and known, so his statements about wanting to 'serve' the people and island are to be taken with a grain of salt, he has his own interest at the top of his agenda always.

The real clues about the direction this new government will take lay in the issues of an Ombudsman, Code of Conduct and transforming the transparency of govt. If they announce these are a priority then maybe they will get some leeway from me.

We shall see I guess eh? Time will tell.

Are you referring to the ongoing project??
Or the new crane that arrived over the weekend but no one is talking about??
or is there something else??

With Theo owning shares perhaps? I guess we won't hear much about that from the new government eh? The new harbor plans I mention are the ones discussed here, we'll have more on this soon.

It was a different tone from some of the speakers during the IC meeting to appointment the new Commissioners. Both Frans And Marlin spoke about the support for environmental organizations and issues as well as building of schools and the fight for teachers and their benefits.
They also mentioned the Emilio Wilson Estate and their desire to save the Area, I'm not sure which part, for the people of St.Maarten. This is encouraging. In addition, the reference to GOD was made often. Hyacinth devotion to GOD, although he also mentioned that he concieves as lot, not sure if he used the wrong word or if he's pregnant again. Frans also made a call out the the clergy and William seemed to find a renewed interest in the almighty. I think Politicians should stay about from always refering to God. I'm sure God knows why. Uncle Lou Lou cried again and stated that Maria is the cancer in the DP party and Sarah should cut the cancer from the root. He too is very close with GOD these days.
Patrick Illige also hopes GOD bless and keep the new EXCO.
I'm sure we'll see all out new Commissioners in Church this Sunday, not Theo, he had nothing to say about GOD. His Mother show up in the tribune and that was a great suprise to him. He thanked " Mommy Dearest" for being there to support his Move.

what a slimy big baby that Theo is. and what an awful raspy voice he's blessed with! can't understadn how people can listen to anything that unpleasant.
and then that Frans, I kept wondering by what magical powers he has managed to squeeze himself into that suit of his. says he wants to introduce some political maturity,,, the new gov is a joke from the very start. and a new york one, according to Frans the sausage.
I wonder if the 'men' drink enough beer?
yuk, i'm grossed out by sweaty faces, fat bellies, constant handshaking and raspy voices.

education and environment will be moved up the agenda... keep us posted PE!!

I guess they need god on their side.... or who else will support them?
I have always wondered why people feel the need to tell others how close they are to god..... what do we care anyways?
And Hyacinth Richardson will be the new embarrassment to this new government, mark my words.
Such a nice person but not a person to hold such a position. I hope god will be on Hyacinth's side as he will need god....good to hear he found a new word right next to his other words of Mr.Chairman and more Mr.Chairman's. This man will hold the health portfolio.... God help us all

Being an atheist I have to agree with you, Gawd should be left out of politics and government, any progress and the future of the island will be created by the people who make the decisions, not Gawd.

God or gawd, white, green or red, It hurts to say I just don't care anymore. Well, I don't care anymore!!!
St. Maarten is not beyond salvation but it is beyond being able to help itself. I will leave this place, the only place I have known my entire adult life and start over somewhere else. Where I don't know but I just can't continue to care when the ones that are entrusted to make a difference don't care. I give up.
But that's ok because what I feel and what I see don't matter anyway.

If I were a politician, I would definitely take this one home.
St Maarten beyond salvation!

I think I read it before somewhere, that the people here are divided into to groups: one doesn't care about the administration and the other is like realising how useless it is to even give a damn because no one will listen to them anyway?

So what will be left when all the people like Mongoose have left?
Only Leopold James's indigenous St Maarteners? LOL

Actually it's the saddest post I've come across next to that guy's emergency surgery.
