National Alliance Faction to Proceed with No Confidence Motion - 8th July 2008

From SMN News

Philipsburg: --- Leader of National Alliance William Marlin at the close of yesterday’s island council meeting said they are looking forward to seeing a new commissioner appointed to the executive council. He said they already posed questions to the executive council as to how they plan to deal with the resignation even though they know that the matter has to be dealt with in the Island Council. Marlin said that the minimum time to deal with removal of the commissioner has now elapsed and since he does not have information as the maximum time frame he expects to see this as an agenda point in the next meeting.

Marlin said that people are of the opinion that the National Alliance has silenced the issue after the vote of non confidence was passed on June 18. However, that is not the case and they intend to proceed with having the commissioner Maria Buncamper Molanus removed from the island council.

In the meantime Buncamper Molanus said the past few weeks were very trying for her party, her supporters and not to forget her family.
“The debate of the past few weeks and even the calling of this meeting are all being attributed to her actions and or behavior. So many people had and still have so much to say, that it is no longer possible to see the forest trough the trees.” Buncamper Molanus said.

The situation is of such a nature that her children have questioned her about the monies she supposedly stole TELEM to give to their father. She said people have referred to his as “political game”. The commissioner acknowledged she made mistakes to which she has admitted. No matter the reason it was bad judgment to have nominated her husband to sit on the board of the TELEM Group of Companies and in her opinion that is indeed her crime. She also again apologized to her colleagues in the Executive Council, to the Democratic Party members and mostly to the people of St. Maarten.

The Telecommunications commissioner also acknowledged it was bad judgment when her husband signed the letter requesting the donation for Sky is the Limit while he was sitting on the Supervisory Board of the same company.

“Mr. Buncamper resigned as a consequence of this bad judgment. We acknowledged our mistakes, we took steps to correct our mistakes, and we did not benefit financially or in any other fashion from this donation.” Buncamper Molanus said.
