Today - Maria apologizes - 12th June 2008

What do you thing about Maria's conflict today?
sxmlocalboy | Sat, 2008-07-05 14:39

I have read with great amasement how many people clobbered Maria the first day the conflict story broke and how a demon she was and that her apologizes were fake etc etc. Today when I read all that has been posted I want to ask to have a pole held and let's see if Maria really is the demon some claimed she is or the saviour St. Maarten has been looking for so long. Maria is a real PERSON that's honest and respectable. She Not Just Another Politician as the rest. Her actions have shown that her logo, TRUST ME etc have credence.
Please Don't leave. Sarah needs a strong, level headed person like you. Theo to you the message is simple. Screw Frankie and save your own skin. Maria's not your enemy, William and Frans are. Don't let greed (business deals) get in your hopefully clear view of this matter.

And Frankie Wants to Talk
Anonymous (not verified) | Sat, 2008-07-05 00:23

And Frankie wants to talk......
Maria, for the love of country....RESIGN. Politics is a snake game....Mikaaeel F. thinks he is Mr. knows it all and then Frankie thinks he was one of the best commissioners I think that's opposite in my opinion...Theo still missing on so called health reasons....Maria, the snakes is in the political fields.

Weeks Maria making headlines but JUSTICE still failing. The senators should use some of the energy in the parliament instead of it in the island council.

Maria resign and go to school of politics. You must understand politics is a snake game and you must be very careful when in this game.

Frankie resigns from DP, but what he forgot to say is that he got what he wanted already.

Let Frankie start talking........
sxmlocalboy | Sat, 2008-07-05 10:22

Maria should definetely not resign from politics now. They game is now on, and Monday will become a very normal day as nobody wants to lose power and believe you me that also counts for Theo. Within DP he can do what he wants and when he wants (look at him being gone for 1 month while this going on. If he was there this wouldn't have even come this far) but not with WILLIAM. Remember once you jump ship you cant come back easily. Frankie better start talking fast before they go fishing and all hell break lose for the wathey dynasty. You and ya boys them caught and you can whine and spin as much as ya want. Mickey is just a SHORT fool and is there for himself. Maybe he set this up to control more of the fortune as Frankie was getting ready to marry into the dynasty and push aside the old ruler. (you know young lion push out old lion from the den).
But no matter what happens on Monday it's clear that without saying a word Telem came falling dow. You see the power of remaining silence and not letting anyone know your next move. Well done Maria!!! Your the real maestro here. Kudos to those in your cornor they seem to be real experts. PLease lend them to Sarah to help run the party. Without saying one word your purging the party, saving TELEM and St. Maarten and dealing with yes FRAUD & EMBEZZLEMENT.
I surely will always "TRUST YOU"

Sorry Maria but we need you
Tongas | Sat, 2008-07-05 12:56

This is what I was trying to say all along, we finally have a person who is fighting in the interest of good governance. She is still young in the game and has a lot to learn about hard politics. She can only learn by giving her time and support and believe me, one year is not enough. but look at all that she has done thusfar.

Those in there for donkey odd years and still making "mistakes" should be the last ones to cast the first stone at ltl. David. Remember he brought down Goliath, so be forwarned and let David do her thang. We the ADV's are watching and will decide come elections. I hope ltl. David will run (for office that is) again and again and again.

Why you think all of this melo drama took place. You are not allowed to play according to the rules in politics. I believe that she along with a strong leader like Sarah can make a difference for this Island.
Clean up the mess and walk a straight path and the day could still be saved.

I hope that all involved in the quest to "get rid of Maria" will see that there are intellectuals and ADV's out there who are watching and analizing their moves, as is those prof. fishermen so keep digging your holes/graves.

Maria is a thorn in their sides, especially for the oposition.
1. by being a constructive hard and honest worker; (not good for the oppositions quest to break the government and get into power before elections)

2. by the possible exposure of their own (opposition's) nepotism, conflict of interests and fraudulent acts.

I have never seen Blue Marlin so visciously in action since the late Dr. Claude Wathey and it realy made me wonder what was behind it all. just politics ? just the quest for good governance ? a word of advise, take some time out and use pure bleach to do your laundry.

All I was seeing is Maria getting this done, Maria getting that done. Then all of a sudden, Maria the biggest crook DP has ever known.
Yes it makes you wonder why, how, when and where. Now we all know a bit more.
And as I said before, a lot more is yet to come.
Remember, them dutch men are avid fishermen, especially when teamed up with a frenchman and englishman they cast a perfect net, no fish can escape.

I dont know if I am right, but Maria definitely cannot step down right now. She has started a positive ball rolling and she is most definitely needed to keep it rolling and continue forward from there.
Besides, who else will stand behind Sarah during the next press briefing.
Anyhow, I have the strongest confidence in Maria's wisdom and whatever decission she makes I will respect. I just hope my point of view is right and she decides to stay.

Sarah you are a strong leader but this is your last chance to wake up. I say it again, you will be next. Wake up and lead your government strongly, wisely and justly.

Maria I too will always "TRUST YOU"

Maria will not resign from politics for sure
Anonymous (not verified) | Sat, 2008-07-05 11:27

But she sure already resigned as a Commissioner. It is up to DP government to accept her resignation or asked her to reconsider her resignation letter. So far, almost a month and nothing has happened. I like many are wondering why the NA did not follow up on this matter.
It is up to the Island Council to appoint a Commissioner, this candidate does not have to be someone from the Island Council.
If Leroy De Weever accepts to be Commissioner, then his sister acting Lt. Governor Millicent De Weever would have to resign. This act does not benefit Leroy as he is known to be a want it all man. In fact he used his sister to sign off on the demolition permit of the Tendal building on Frontstreet. Leroy wants to continue cashing in on SXM and a old historical building does not benefit him.
Who else is there on the DP list? Erno Labega? and Jeffery Richardson? how about Greg Richardson? The DP can also appoint Richard Gibson as was recently noted in a news article on www.smn-news.com.
So what was in Frankie's brown envelope? I guess that is the mysterious question. Smn news reported he was walking around the Claude Wathey legislative hall with a brown envelope during the Island Council.
It beats me why there is no security at the door of the AC legislative hall, all it would take is some hot head to walk in with concealed weapons of mass destruction and wipe out the mess called SXM political leaders.
And this story about Dutch men arriving on French shores to pick up Blue Marlin; if you people reading this, please pick up Red Marlin, King Zulu, and all the cronies as corruption runs all across the political parties. And by the way, don't fall for the Theo's health travel excuses-talk is that he went to China and we are damn sure it wasn't for new body parts.

fishing trip
Tongas | Fri, 2008-07-04 19:31

are there any teachers on duty to grade their marks ??

This will be one heck of a fishing trip.

Anonymous (not verified) | Sat, 2008-07-05 18:00

If you keep spreading these rumors of dutch intervention long enough, you may start believing them yourself. Do a reality check. Sint Maarten is completely left in the dark as far as justice is concerned. Commissioners have been stealing us blind over the last 10 years mafia style. They have their hands in almost every business that makes money. Tour operators, construction, cement and concrete, building materials, fuel and fuel recycling, landscaping, garbage collection, casino's, hotels, land development, telecommunication, land holdings, advertising (bill board sarah), shipping, trucking and many many more; you name it, they have their way of getting their dirty hands on it. Whether it is with business permits or planning permits, work permits, consulting contracts, simple kick backs, or participation with some fancy off shore company of their chilren. No one is leaving the Govt Building with nothing. Maria and Sarah included.

We all know, the dutch know, curacao knows but for the last 10 years not one of our politicians has even been questioned to explain how they can afford their (several) million dollar houses and apartments, expensive cars, planes, expensive schools for their chilren and travel all over the globe with their posse. All on a commissioner salary of course. The Dutch haven't been doing shit and they ain't gonna do shit. So stop with your riddles of people flying in on sausages and warships to set us free cause that is bull. Help can only come from within. Sint Maarten is ready for a revolution.

fishing trip or sky dive
Tongas | Sun, 2008-07-06 00:47

Dear dear anonymous,

You know you right, I am realy starting to believe the rumors now myself you know. I had no idea I would find a psychiatrist on this site. you good for real.

To help you out here why corruption and all the rest was tolerated for 10 years.
Well, after the late Dr. C. W. kept sxm out of their (dutch & curacao) grips for over 40 years untill his untimely passing God rest his soul, there was nothing at stake. Have you been following Sarah's stand on this whole separate status issue. Yep, they now see that SXM is at stake and believe me they will not let it go without a fight.

And as I said before and Localboy now also stated: Our own, be it blue, red, green or orange, have given them the tools they needed but could not get for the past 10 years. Sadly enough the greed exceeded common sense thinking and many made huge mistakes over the past couple of weeks while no one was accussed or incriminated with any wrong doings .... except Maria and her husband.
Then, all of a sudden, the boyz started resigning left, right and center, for what ?????? They gave themselfs away stjupidly. And yes, the dutch have eyes all around us but we dont even take note of that.
Most of our high fuluting intelectuals were educated by the dutch and now believe that they are smarter than the dutch. But you might feel that you have aquired more skills than the teacher but when teacher put his old methods into play you find yourself on the losing end.

That is why I gave a standing ovation to all of those who were so full of hate for the commissioner that they did not stop to think of the consequences all their remarks and hasty actions would have.

They did not stop to realize that their blue boyzes are just as caught up in whatever they tried to accuse the red machine of. However, the dutch can at least negotiate with the red machine. Them blue boyzes are forgetting to tell the ADV's that no matter what, even if we go for independence, we would still need the Dutch for the first couple of years to help us out of our messes. On top of that they picking up walking out of meetings with the Dutch.

Blue marlin felt that they would embarras and break the red machine for using diplomacy in their negotiations with the Dutch for our paradise island.
A dutchman is a funny thing. He has a tremendous amount of self controll when he is planning to bring you down and if by now you dont understand that them dutchmen know a lot more than we carrying on this site, then I surley pitty you.

Blue boyzes insulted them and history has shown how they deal with insults by their subordinates.
Red marlin already was caught up in the net, but since he was to small to sell on the fish market he was thrown back into the ocean. King zulu was causing some smoke that might have caught fire so they call in the fire department to out the smoke before it catch.
Not to puzzle you with my "non" riddles, Roy and Laveist are of no importance to them (Dutch/Cur.) at this point.

Indeed we dont have aliens arriving on strange crafts, and last that I checked we were in no need of warships. They are very much earthlings and no.... not coming to set us free, .........free of what ???
How they get here is besides the point.
If they come they are coming to "diplomatically" destroy the weed (corruption) and who are the weed ????? revolution you say ?????? hhhmmm ? be carefull of what you wish for, you might get it .... or do you know something we dont.

That my dear anonymous friend is my reality check, you fill in the blanks I am just an ADV ;( ........... ;D

History will repeat
Anonymous (not verified) | Sun, 2008-07-06 01:09

Claude died a broken man. Why? Because he wouldn't submit to the Dutch nor bow down to the queen. Look what it got him. Time in Point Blanche prison. Will history repeat itself? Or will the red machine give in to Dutch demands to save themselves?

Another anonymous commentator

history, my sentiments exactly
Tongas | Sun, 2008-07-06 11:39

Oke anonymous and a blessed Sunday to you and all.

now you hit the nail on the head.
what would you want to see happen ?.

Should the red machine simply repeat history and end up in point blanche ....... or should they have learned from history and use a different strategy, called sitting at the tables and negotiate ?
What good will point blanche do for them or us ?

All over the world elected Democrats, republicans and communists sit with each other and negotiate the peoples business.
Why can't our sxm leaders negotiate with the dutch without us seeing it as a sell out or giving into the dutch to save themselfs. What would you do ??????

Using Marlin's tatics as was done in history and walking out of meetings with the dutch (he has nothing to lose, he is not the country's leader right now) will get you no where. It is only delaying the issues. What did it show me (and I speak only for myself). Did it get us anywhere ? Dit it prove to me that our leader is weak ? Most definitely not.

No matter what any ruling Government do the oposition will always be there to convince the "people" that they (government) are weak and corrupt. It is therefore up to the "people" to learn to think for themselfs and ask their own questions and then decide which way they want to go. And yes there might be some folks within any ruling Government who cannot handle the access to power and submitt to wrong doings, but should that undo the rest of good that has been done by others ?

So if you want to call using diplomacy in negotiations selling out to save yourself then so be it. The ruling Government has a lot to look at during negotiations and to TRY and make the right decissions. It would help tremendously if all parties concerned would sit and trash things out locally first, in the interest of the people, and then sit with the dutch and negotiate as responsible adults.
We are most certainly entitled to our own opinion but it does not have to be the opinion of all.

LOL. I am starting to sound like the song "there is a hole in the bucket" since I see myself coming right back to statements of my first postings.
Let the politicians deal with politics and let the oposition be there to make sure that all is kept in line but do so in a just way. Then and only then will they gain my respect and possible vote. And yes, that one vote can make the difference just look back at recent history of stay in government, become an independant or link that one seat that will make a difference in government. :)

So do tell me please what steps would you take ?

The Carrot and the Stick
Anonymous (not verified) | Sun, 2008-07-06 12:25

What to do? Clean up our own act. Forget about money from Holland to pay off our debts. The red machine is hoping by going along with the Dutch demands they will get a get-out-of-jail-free card. But we will never see a red cent from the Dutch, no matter what promises were made. They're dangling a carrot in front of us, but where's the stick? There is a stick. There always is.

The dutch coming ma boy
sxmlocalboy | Sat, 2008-07-05 19:31

You can cry foul all you want but the pot will burst very soon. Loor, Holiday, Marsdin and some low ranking police officers were first so that they cannot say they didn't clean up their responsibility; "JUSTICE'
Now they're going to clean up the politricks a littel bit and then continue for a couple of years with higher supervision. After that maybe BES island and everything going cool off again. They're not coming in on a sausage but on KLM and AIR FRANCE. Look around partner you and you'll see how many RST and MArrachausse are walking around. They may look like tourist or bums but their police. It we who telling them everything they need to know and where to find it. Read this website and you'll see it all unfolding infront your own eyes. The only reason I believe the Dutch didn't hold Roy, Louie and Theo yet from DP and Willaim and Frans from Alliance is because all hell will break lose. And believe me they want William also real bad(they don't like racist). But they'll take atleast 2 very soon. Guess which ones or let's start a pole. Frankie doesn't count anymore as a politician but maybe to dagger the Wathey dynasty he'll become a causalty of war in this operation CLEAN SWEAP SXM.
TRUST ME it coming!

Frankie a casuality of war? Wonder why?

Anonymous (not verified) | Sat, 2008-07-05 21:41

Well, if they coming it better be soon cause eventhough we have almos 20 marechaussee on island right now, I ain't seeing much happening yet and if this continues many may decide running politics next time. We all want villas in dawn beach and point blanche, some apartments in cole bay and a house in Sto. Domingo; and to be honest a gas station comes in handy these days as well.
All for free. No questions aksed and no tax bill to be paid.
So if they start cleaning i hope they start with the red marlin and brainless laveist. They would look nice in a beige GEV WEZ suit.
And on their way to clean the top (theo and the double-faced leader), they may wanna brush off maria and bunks a little cause I heard bunks chilren saying that mummy and daddy already fix them a sweet piece of land on pond island. But again, I ain't believing it till i see them marching out the courts. Convicted, shackled, all their belongings taken and put away for a good while. They don't deserve no better.

sxmlocalboy | Sat, 2008-07-05 21:56

Bunks and Maria got a piece of land on Arch road many years ago. It's registered at the cadaster. His children got a piece of land behind the Vine Yard house in the development that he, his brothers and his niece own. Believe me when I tell you Bunks and Maria ain't crooks. Bunks heart to big and that why he gets in trouble. He always given people his trust which they misuse. TRUST ME!

THE BOMBS ARE DROPPING!!
Anonymous (not verified) | Mon, 2008-07-07 16:35

1. Curtis Haynes had a personal company that was consulting and collecting from the same company he was head of..SMITCOMS.
2. The director of the board of Telem REJECTED Maria's requests for information from meetings telling her...the COMMISSIONER mind you...that she is not entitled to the information and she should not interfere in a GOVERNMENT owned company! BUT William Marlin has minutes from the same meeting the Commissioner requested info on. So Frankie boys giving info to the opposition.
3. Embezzelment of equipment and Telem vehicle parts to the tune of thousands.
4. The former Commissioner and his other half owns one of the companies that does business with Telem

......and this is just a start. Wait until the rest of the information come to light about who owns what and who benefited from the 25% of the fiber optic cable that was sold. NONE of this would have been made public had Toontje and Raffy not been appointed to the board. I said it once and I say it again Maria and her conflict issue was a way to get rid of Toontje before he uncovers more. It was a plan concocted by her predecessor and the opposition (with whom he is pals) to tear her down.

More to come.

Big BOMBS
sxmlocalboy | Mon, 2008-07-07 20:00

Well said Juliana. Now I'm sure that finally everyone will understand which CONFLICT OF INTEREST was really the big bang. Toontje and Raffie created the perfect situation for them to open that pandora box once and for all. Remember it's Curtis Haynes that resigned and talked about his involvement with MIO, EOCG etc. The former commissioner Frankie Meyers, Mickey Ferrier and the rest of the gang by now are aware that the prosecutor's office has their number. (remember Mickey, Cor Merx isn't there to protect you this time around)This will have serious consequences for all of them without any doubt. Maria, Toontje and Raffie thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. TELEM will survive now for sure. And to the DP party a word of advice. If Maria's not reinstated after the summer recess you've told the public of St. Maarten and the rest of the world that fraud is oke. Higher supervision should then immediately be enforced. Thanks once again Maria.

From The IC Meeting

This from the Island Council meeting today:

Maria:
Mr. Chairman allow me to read an email I received from the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Directors when requesting information regarding a company we supposedly have no formal relationship with.

Dear Maria,

I believe that your misinterpreting your email as an obligation or task related to the functioning of the Supervisory Board.

However let me refresh your memory that in the first meeting that you had jointly with the Board and Management you specifically asked the Management to supply you with certain information such as name of all the Local Companies with which they had contracts, information related to MIO etc.

At that moment you already bypassed the Supervisory Board and transgressed your limit of authority.

The Supervisory Board will never authorize you to approach Management directly.

Related to your request to submit to you all the minutes of the meetings held by the Supervisory Board which are to be kept in accordance with article 12 sub 5 I can inform you that these are for the record and not for public distribution.

We believe that you should read the Articles of Incorporation of SMTHC thoroughly and within its whole context and you will notice that the Commissioner of Telecommunication is not a party at all in this complete scenario under the new “Good Corporate Governance Structure set-up.

Hoping to have informed you sufficiently we remain,

Best regards,

Rudy

Me: How BOLD is Mr. Rudy Hoeve. The same Hoeve who works for Brenda Wathey who happens to be shacked up with you know who.

Then this from the resignation letter of Curtis Haynes: The former Managing Director of SMITCOMS!:

June 17, 2008

Mr. Eldert Louisa
Mrs. Helma Etnel
Mr. Edward Benjamin

Subject: Withdrawal from providing consulting services

Dear All,

Please be informed that my engagement with EOCG, Dauphin and MIO are presently such that it may cause conditions if not reason for insinuations of a conflict of interest. To avoid this and any further unnecessary queries and insinuations, and for all us, our peace of mind I herewith inform you, that I effective immediately I withdraw my consultant services to your company.

Rest assured that during the period that I have been of assistance to your company I have not failed to maintain the highest regard for primarily your companies’ interest in all matters I attended on your behalf. I will be forwarding an invoice which will close off the services rendered to date.

Sincerely,

Curtis K Haynes
June 17, 2008

Maria:
In his own words Mr. Chairman he confirms to have been a consultant advising us, at the same time affiliated with a partner of ours on the Fiber Optic Cable, at the same time affiliated with a potential partner on the new cable to be built and at the same time affiliated with competitors of ours.
By the way Mr. Chairman I believe that we were discussing conflict of interest and semblances thereof. M. Chairman, the hostility by the acting chairman of the board towards myself and the members nominated by me continued. These members were threatened to be taken to public prosecutor because they were interfering into management’s affairs and that this was not in accordance with the principles of good corporate governance.
It would appear Mr. Chairman that it is better to steal from a public company than to request a donation from one. At least Mr. Chairman the protectors of good corporate governance would remain silent.

Me: I can't even find the words to describe how Maria was wronged. By the way, before it all gets lost, There was also this from Maria:

Yes Mr. Chairman I made mistakes. I admitted to have made mistakes. No matter the reason it was bad judgment to have nominated my husband to sit on the board of the Telem Group of Companies. Just for the record Mr. Chairman, this nomination was done in December last year (2007) and was publicly known to everyone. That was and is my crime Mr. Chairman. For this bad judgment I apologize to my colleagues in the Executive Council, to my fellow party members and to the people of Sint Maarten.

Then Mr. Chairman the issue with the donation to the Sky is the Limit Foundation. What more can be said about this that was not already said. Yes, bad judgment of Mr. Buncamper for signing the request for the donation while sitting on the board of supervisory directors of the Telem Group of Companies.
Mr. Buncamper resigned as a consequence of this bad judgment. We acknowledged our mistakes, we took steps to correct our mistakes, and we did not benefit financially or in any other fashion from this donation. As a matter of fact Mr. Chairman, Mr. Buncamper requested his stipend that he would receive as a member of the Supervisory Board of directors be given to several charities of his choice.

ME: But the real CROOKS getting away scott FREE!!

WOW, WOW, & once more WOW !!!!!!
Tongas | Thu, 2008-07-03 12:17

Oke, I was just sitting back with Brinky, having another stiff one when I decided to check the scene and all I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW. LOL.

This is better than "As the world turns", or which ever soap opera I have ever seen. Brinky slap me on my back and say "I am elated that you invited me to this one" Curacao send me an e-mail saying "SHUT UP" let them finish off themselfs, we coming soon.

Oke George and Baptiste, Your opinion here is very important to me. Was I right or what (best soap opera ever ;D) ?

But seriously, this is no joking matter, this is down right sad and disgracefull what is happening on our 2 X 4 island. When I said I was waiting for the biggest "BANG" I could not even start to imagine that it would start unfolding so quickly.

But you know what, there is a lot more to come. I hope Sara is smart enough to now understand what is going down. I watched her as she stood alone (press briefing) and she stood tall, cheers to you Sara. (Maria would have stood by your side, unlike all them running rats)
As was said, the chickens are coming out to brood and the rats are just running around like mad dogs.

Imagine, No one say nothing yet.
Maria is a true "Lady" (she did not snitch ...yet) or is it that she is simply the best person for the job. Just by fanning a little smoke the fire ignating to one that our firemen can never handle.

everyone said she did wrong, she resigned. She has set a trend for the best "good governance" there is. We have all board members of all Government owned companies realizing that they too should do the right thing and resign lol.
I wont even mention Frankie and Michael ........... yet. I watching with brinky.

I am sorry people, my tears have dried, I am just having a "Fun Day" with this one. hhhhhmmmm. I wonder if my remark of FUN DAY will also become a best seller. lol.

Anyhow, I am here, though very quite (no, I dont have nothing to hide :O ) I am simply drinking my sorrows away while Brinkman patting my back.

Keep the soap coming, I am luuuuving it. Run boys, Run. but remember you can run but you cannot hide.

And to those of you in there who felt you were soooo smart and wise you tried to cover up your, to put it nicely, pooopies, but let me also throw in a little dutch saying here myself,

"Wie een kuil graaft voor een ander valt er zelf in"
(he who digs a hole/grave for another falls in it themselfs) and boy, is this hole/grave ever getting deeper and deeper.

Public disclosures
George MacGee | Thu, 2008-07-03 22:22

Tongas, it's the best soap opera ever indeed. :-)

What started out as a clear cut case of conflict of interest of a spousal nature has resulted in a dramatic scrambling of cockroaches running for cover.

Boardmembers whose consciences and other sources of prudent advice told them that their boardmemberships was not based on principles of unbiased and independent representation meant for proper oversight and safekeeping of the shareholder's (read: the people's) interest and for the good of the company, chose to do the right thing.... for the wrong reasons. Nevertheless the impact has had a historical domino effect whereby the end is not yet in sight.

William Marlin's shot accross the bow of Sarah's battleship with the query whether Telem is still donating money to Summerfest is another such seemingly unimportant and irrelevant question coming from the opposition that has pundits wondering and questioning his motives. They shouldn't. It is the right question, but posed for the wrong reason.

As I wrote in an earlier post a law should be passed forcing politicians to submit to full public disclosure of net worth before and after their terms in political offices and that the holdings and assets of even spouses, children and close family relatives should be scrutinized.

Why is this important?

Let me go back first to Marlin's warning shot at Sarah. The success of their political disabling of Marietje and throwing the DP party in a state of disarray may embolden him to now go after Sweet Sarah. School children know her son was on the board of the Summerfest Foundation and he is a front for many backroom dealings with Sarah being the beneficiary. The same setup with her son-in-law fronting for many a shady deals on Sarah's behest.

Now William should know better than to go there. As Clarence Derby was quick to point out. But not for reasons of incorrect insinuations, but for reasons of 'people living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones'-rationale because William himself has boter op zijn hoofd. He cover his tracks utilizing identical setups with his own son as front for many a shady deals at his behest. As a matter of fact, his son and Sarah's son-in-law have very close ties in business.

If the kettle want to start calling the pot black, he should be careful he don't create a boomerang effect and end up hitting himself in the back of the head. Going after full public disclosure could also affect Willam Marlin cum suis. It has been well documented that William's image is not that taintfree. He wouldn't want that 'beerput' opening up again. [I think I see Brinkman coming with a crowbar in his hand.]

So William if you want to achieve full public disclosure, it is important that you go about it the right way. Champion the enactment of a new law for country St. Maarten to force politicians to submit to full disclosure of net worth and assets. Including yourself, however ironic. Make sure Include your offshore accounts and hidden foundation funds.

Else Tongas will have a field day cracking up and ROTFLOL. :-)
Can't wait for next week's episode of this soap opera.
More to come...

What a thang !!!!!!!!
Tongas | Fri, 2008-07-04 09:05

YEP, what a thang !!!!!

and to imagine I though this was all about conflict of interest, fraud and nepotism.

I am truly flabergasted. I realy got a lot to learn yet.

Even toddlers could'nt be this stjupid and funny, are these people for real.

But I also understand now why blue Marlin's boyz and them keeping soooo quite. yep a lot more to come.
It is a pitty for real that Marlin just dont know when to quit.
the shovels are still digging deeper and deeper.
One should know when it is time to wash up their dirty laundry, put it in the dryer and not have it aired while still soiled.

I can just imagine how the red machine regrets now having added Poor Maria to their machinery. Who ever thought that a ltl country girl could cause so much rucus without even saying a word. Watch your back Maria, they are not finished with you as yet.

And what effect did Franky expect his resignation to have, now please get real Franky. Eight years and all of a sudden you cant take it no more ??? That was realy bad timing. He better dont be here when Theo gets back, he single handedly bringing down their whole empire. better find the bucks to gas up that plane of yours and fly off into the sun set alone, because barbie surely aint gonna want to fly with you now.

At least Roy and Loui wisen up and keeping a low as possible profile and using their rights to silence. good good boyz. Let Sara take the blows. But I hope they realize that this is just for a short time. they will be next in line for the gunshots. So use your silent time wisely and prep youselfs.

As our wise forefathers would say, whoy mama, whoy whoy papa.

Now more than ever I believe that Maria was just an innocent factor in this whole affair and the most that she should be accused of is her popularity quest. I still do not see anything wrong with that but little did she and Bunky know that they were being watched for the slightest err and unfortunatley they did give them. And human nature is to keep kicking you when you are down and to keep you down there.
When you want to play rough with so called prof. "bad boys" you gotta to learn that they will take you down before you get a chance to point a finger. Thankfully things kept hotter than hot and the turn of events are truely too unbelievable to grasp.

Well I never looked forward to a monday this much. Welcome back Theo, hope you are well rested ........ or what turn of events are you going to give us ?????.

Yep, a lot more to come, it is inevitable.

ADV ;(

Theo
Anonymous (not verified) | Fri, 2008-07-04 15:07

Well, if Theo is back on the Island, the island council meeting on Monday will be interesting, because Theo is the type of guy who speaks his mind without thinking twice (clown), so this is when the pot is going to burst.

Theo and the Blue Marlin
sxmlocalboy | Sat, 2008-07-05 21:51

Well I just understood from the school children on the boardwalk that Theo's stepfather(Georgie) new building in Point Blanche being build by Energizer (owned by Sylvio Matser and William Marlin's son). Also these boys cut a deal in the harbor project with Theo for some kick backs and a huge discount on daddy's building. I understood that's why they (Michel Soons and Theo) said no to Buncamper's reappointment on the harbor board.(might a bus that pot too!!) They told Erasmus to not put it forward for appointment in the council. That's when they told Maria put him on Telem's board and set him up for a real political massaca. So ya see Monday going become interesting. Theo put Buncamper on Frankie's ass and he's in bed with William and Sarah's son in law. And we wondering how the world turns. What a wheel of Fortune run this one is. What is Maria's next move. That's the real political maestro in this game of chess (deceit)

Apology once, twice...
Roots | Sun, 2008-06-15 19:08

Stand up for St Maarten

The last time this Commissioner had asked the people of St Maarten to "Trust her" and this time she apologizes for "confusion and inconvenience". Clearly she has a habit of doing wrong and getting away with a slap on the wrist and on to the next wrong, because she gets away with it. No her husband should not resign, the Commish knows the South wind will blow over this one too, so why not.
Mrs Maria Buncamper-Molanus owes the people more than a simple apology. Give the people the RESPECT you ought to.

Once, Shame on you - Twice, Shame on me.

Lets address the real issues
who_ask | Sat, 2008-06-14 12:44

In the first place she shouldnt have put her husband on the board but then again if Telem is moving in the right direction since him being on the board then why not leave him there. The work is being done and the union declares telem moving in the right steps and the employees are comfortable then I guess the put together board is well competent.

With regards to the donation, I think it benefited the local carnival musicians in a positive way. Whats the big deal? Is 25,000 to much of an investment for local St. Maarteners to expose their music during Carnival time.

We as a people are wasting time with pity stuff and I think we need to address the real issue and thats more like JUSTICE. If justice in St. Maarten dont get fix soon we are in serious trouble.

Afterall said, since its a conflict of interest...Maria should simply tell her husband to resign from the position and move on...This is just my opinion

Mayb you want the best for St. Maarten and you felt your husband was capable of moving Telem in the right direction. Maria, tell your husband to the right thing and in the future refrain from giving family or relatives position...look around you there are many local professionals that can hold the position

Intolerable situation
George MacGee | Thu, 2008-06-12 14:32

Yes Mrs. Maria Buncamper-Molanus, the situation is intolerable. Either you or your husband, Mr. Claudius Buncamper, should resign. Since you were instrumental in his appointment and for your sake as an elected official, he should do the honourable thing and submit his immediate resignation.

I cannot begin to count the ways this situation is intolerable and how a permanent source of conflicts of interests this will be, in the past, in the present and also in the future. You will constantly find yourself facing similar situations. You willingly and knowingly subjected yourselves to this intolerable situation despite the good common sense you are expected to have.

No matter how experienced or qualified your husband may be, you should never have for one single moment entertained or comtemplated the idea of recommending your husband for this position. It reeks of nepotism and cronyism. I had expected better of you, Marietje.

Now do the right thing and tell Toontje to resign.

GM

Apology
Calico Jack | Thu, 2008-06-12 22:43

Mrs. Buncamper Molanus,

A true apology entails a resolution, and you have to carry out your promise in order for the apology to be sincere and complete. Otherwise, your apologies will lose their meaning, and trust may disappear beyond the point of no return.

I fear for this country.

Rackham

Apology
sxmlocalboy | Sat, 2008-07-05 16:29

Wha ya say Rackman about the apology and resolution. Well the apology came and the resolution to clean up corruption without saying one word sofar seems to have been there. Those that know Maria can tell you that she doesn't take cr*p from no one including her own party. That's the thorn she was to them. I hope she convinced you as I surely am convinced that the lady means well for St. Maarten

Yes, I can't tolerate
Juliana Jno Baptiste | Thu, 2008-06-12 15:48

Yes Pietje my sister! It's intolerable, and I can't take it anymore. Could you please just ask Toontje to finish whatever work he's doing (I want to hear who embezzled money from Telem. Strange SXMPE aint pick up on this one) and move on. It's intolerable because you do good work, but this incident was clearly for great intentions, but Toontje had to distance himself, you too. So yes, it's intolerable.

Telem embezzlements
George MacGee | Fri, 2008-06-13 12:59

I can understand SXMPE not 'picking' up the news about alleged embezzlements going on in Telem because the question is, ofcourse, how much was this a subterfuge and simply an attempt to divert attention from the real issue here: a situation of conflict of interest created by a commissioner appointing her spouse to the board of a government owned company while she is politically responsible for that company. That's the real issue here.

To pick up now on the alleged stories of embezzlement practices going on in Telem, as outsiders we can not know about these embezzlements unless this information is brought forwards by the company's management, board of directors, the responsible Commissioner in charge, the prosecution, a whistleblower or an astute investigative reporter. (Or by the union. Coincidence?)

As outsiders we can not know these things. Only 'school children' know these things. School children say embezzlements have been going in Telem Group of Companies and Smitcoms for years under every commissioner in charge of that portfolio (Telecommunications).

School children say the last commissioner got away with at least 2 million dollars via a dummy corporation set up in Venezuela. When he got enough, he ran. Or he was asked nicely to leave. Or he left quietly. Only school children know.

School children say what monkey see, monkey do. If a li'l monkey see a big monkey stealing banana's, he gone steal some too. And if he happens to get catch and he threatens to 'bust the pot' on all the other monkeys, the gorilla in charge just decides to banish him from swinging in the trees with the rest of them. He done eat the banana's anyway, so hopefully he will just go away quietly.

School children say the mere mentioning of certain allegations of embezzlements in Telem was to wip the other DP island council members into place behind the Commissioner in order to avoid any breaking of ranks. The fact that this news was brought forward by the union doesn't impress the school children dem because school children know who is in control of the union.

So we really can't comment on allegations of embezzlements because we don't know the facts or all the facts yet. We can only go by what school chil'ren say. But what we do know for a fact is that being politically in charge of a company with your hubby on the board is a situation of potential conflict of interest and the donation from Telem to the Sky is the Limit Foundation is a clear case of conflict of interest. No amount of smoke screens is going to change that fact.

Let's hope now that the Governor of The Netherlands Antilles put his foot down. If I was Toonchie, I would draw my own conclusions before it even reaches that far. At least do it for Marietje's political future. Else the 2010 elections will be even more costly than last year's.

We love you and we support you, Marietje, but do the right thing while you still have our trust. An apology given halfheartedly ain't enough.

Telemgate
George MacGee | Wed, 2008-07-02 23:16

As more developments come to light and more resignations are made known, it seems appropriate to dub this whole Telem affair as Telemgate.

When are we going to get our own Parlementaire Enquete to probe into these allegations of corruption, fraude, embezzlements and self-enrichment and bring about investigations into this seemingly stinking pot of nepotism and cronism?

School children say when I was a Commissioner and I wanted to go on vacation, I used to request an advance from the Finance Department (Receiver's Office) or if I was on vacation and ma cash run out, I used to request 'emergency funds' to be sent to me with the promise to pay it back before the end of the month so it wouldn't be missed. But ofcourse, I never used to bother pay it back because all the other monkeys I used to work with used to do the same and never pay back their 'discretionary funds' either. So why should I? Monkey see, monkey do.

Now a'you threatening to bust the pot on me, I making sure walk around with ma evidence in a li'l brown envelop. So you done know. Anytime the Marashowsays pick me up, I gone bust the pot on all a'you too. A warning a'you good!

Een gewaarschuwd mens telt voor twee dus.

What an intriguing show! Better than any tv soap opera !!!
In the famous words of Arthur Donker of Curacao: "Je blijft lachen op deze klip."

Well said George

LOL.....George, you couldn't have said it any better.

The real smoke
Anonymous (not verified) | Thu, 2008-07-03 08:02

The real smoke here is trying to divert this biger issue of embezzelment back to the conflict issue. The latter was rendered moot, in my opinion, when Toontje resigned and both the DP and the Commissioner acknowledged it could have been done differently. It's "cute" to try to divert the discussion back. But it's not gonna work because the issue is too large. Notice that Maria did not call any names in alleged wrong doing at Telem. Not even once. But the rats are running like there's a cat in the room. The shoe is fitting quite nicely. Frankie's assertion that he resigned from DP because Marietje is a "thorn" is more smoke again. She is so thorny you put up with her for 8 eight years while you and the boys were, as the school children say, running rough-shod over Telem. She was such a thorn that in the past when the Alliance made claims of blackmail within the DP you stood up and said proudly that the DP is a team on the floor of the Island Council. NOW, because you and te boys might be implicated, you attempt to frame her as a troublesome politician. How convenient. Obviously Marietje and Toontje have uncovered wrong-doings at Telem. And those of you who think that the whole "conflict" issue wasn't brought up (By Frankie's best friend Frans) to remove Toontje before he uncovers more, are politically naive. It would be an injustice for SXMPE not to analyse Frankie's statements like you do any other. The smoke is clearing and we're all starting to see why an attempt was made to try to crucify Maria.

J. Baptiste

Re: the real smoke
Anonymous (not verified) | Thu, 2008-07-03 17:59

You know Baptiste, I think you are right this time. Credit where credit is due. We all know that you are a vivid Maria defender and part of the damage control team but it makes sense what you say. To make matters worse, she should really stick to her resignation cause then the interesting times start. Sarah says that the DP will appoint another commissioner "soon" but she conveniently forgets it is the Island Council that appoints. Not the DP. Maria is still a member of the council and I think we can only guess which way her vote will swing. The future of this DP government and the entire party for that matter, may very will be under her guillotine.

Ya right
Anonymous (not verified) | Thu, 2008-07-03 01:46

Monkey see monkey do, but now the pot burst & they all sh t (Joke on them)!!

Monkey see, MONKEY DIDN"T DO
sxmlocalboy | Thu, 2008-07-03 16:26

I can feel your pain for what you think is going to happen in the very near future to "som a dem boys wha runnin scared" You see it wasn't Maria who got caught with her hand in any cookie jar. It seems to be them boys wha resigning left and right with gunsmoke at the helm. Maria is a thorn in his side for years because for years he rippin off the company together with the former managing director of Smitcoms and his fellow boardmembers. "I came with nothing and I left with nothing" are you joking; A big boat on a lift in Simpsonbay, A new crematorium in Suckergarden, A huge house in Pelican Key, a home in Atlanta etc etc. But I left with nothing. "YA done KNow". Now I'm starting to understanding why Maria and her Husband's have been taken out so sudden. Their plea to stop this corruption in the company fell seeingly on deaf ears within the DP? Even do their doesn't seem to be much public support for Frankie's resignation. Is it because the public knows he did what is being said he did. I left with nothing. Ya man! All those that resigned Cool Runnings man. I hope you all did as my partner said Monkey see Monkey Do!!!! Then It will become very interesting when the pot burst.

Left with everything to be gotten
George MacGee | Thu, 2008-07-03 19:51

"I went into office with nothing and I left with nothing".

I beg to differ.

sxmlocalboy you forgot to mention the plane he bought after getting flying lessons from his boy Mikey from downstreet and Joan 'mustang' Dovale. He probably got a good deal from her. [Oops! Sorry, my bad. The latter is a civil servant, not a public figure, and a hard worker. So she is allowed her toys and privileges.] Unfortunately, the price of fuel is quite expensive nowadays and the cost of maintaining an aircraft is enough to make one give up the hobby. Mikey ain't got Winair's hangar and access to free spare parts to keep the costs down anymore. So you know!

Besides the plane, you also forgot to mention the offshore accounts and dummy corporations. Finally, but not lastly, the fiber optic cable contract with wifey and other sweetheart telecom deals set up with Rudy.

Normally, I generalize my ridicule to encompass all corrupt politicians, but with Frankie I am taking personal issue. "I went into office with nothing and I left with nothing". Come again !?!?!?!?! "I went into office with nothing and I left with nothing".

No other politician outside of Roy and Theo has so blatantly but coolly with all the style in the world enriched himself than Frankie. Roy is another case. His million dollar villa surpassed only by the palace he built for his mother with adjacent apartments up in The Keys with lots of help from Public Works. Others waiting for years to get their building permits. But his were approved in an Atlanta minute. But we will come to Roy later.

Theo I will leave for now too because you mustn't hit a man when he is down. Or when he is sick. Plus he has a lot of cousins and they might come after me and beautified St. Maarten ain't got enough palm trees to hide behind from dem hooligans in red. I will wait until he has succeeded in reclaiming his rightful place in the DP hierarchy as heir apparent to the late Dr. Claude Wathey.

But Frankie.... Frankie..... Frankie Meyers...!!!
The man actually got the heart to say and I repeat "I went into office with nothing and I left with nothing". Unfortunately, your resignation from DP will not stop the hunt for red.... (former) members.

When Dutch undercover agents set up shop over on the French side from where they could launch their covert investigations into the huge amassing of personal wealth and assets these Commissioners incurred over the short years while in office, Louie starting stuttering, Roy started cutting his toenails to make his big toe shorter, Theo developed an ulcer and Frankie grew a patch of grey hair on his forehead overnight. It was the latter who decided to clear out while the going was good.

Whatever the outcome of secret investigations into the asset building and wealth accummulation of DP Commissioners by the Dutch, it should be made into law that anyone entering into politics must give full disclosures of their net worth, holdings and personal assets. At the end of their terms they must give full account for any significant mutations in their net worth, holdings and assets. The Tax Inspectorate should also scrutinize the net worth of their spouses, children and close relatives. Especially in regards to onshore and offshore holdings and foreign assets.

"I went into office with nothing and I left with nothing".

Yeah, right!

You mean: "A leave wih e'ryting eye cou'da get."

"I went into office with nothing..."
Anonymous (not verified) | Fri, 2008-07-04 12:05

Current and former public officials who DO NOT run for reelection who claim "I went into office with nothing and I left with nothing" without being asked by the Prosecutors, are:

A) Not very bright or not well-versed regarding the notion of "self-incrimination" - statements that can and will be used against them, AND
B) They DO have something to hide.... otherwise they don't respond to the rumors at all

If both are true (I hope they are!) then there's a fair chance to unravel a thing or two, and make sure it can't happen again...
