On Thursday 1st September 2005 a Public Notice was printed in the Daily Herald informing the public that a request had been put in to divide the Emilio Wilson property into lots for residential purposes.

Back in 2000 Mr. Emilio Wilson was approached with the idea to donate part or all of his estate to the island and in order to preserve and create a cultural and historical park for the people of Sint Maarten. In 2001 he donated a small part and made plans to donate more, unfortunately this did not happen before he passed away in 2002. It is documented that Mr. Emilio Wilson wanted his estate to remain undeveloped.

The property is now apparently in the hands of his sister in law who resides in the US and has little or no ties to the island and plans are underway to divide most of the 198 acres into over 200 residential lots. As usual on the island, political subterfuge and schemes are taking place in order to facilitate the developers of this property which is of great historical and cultural value to the people of Sint Maarten.
