Good Governance SXM Style

Again, in no way is it my intention to discredit or cast Millicent De Weever in a bad light, but I do feel a little bit vindicated after raising questions about her appointment as Acting Lt. Governor back in February. This matter should not reflect badly upon her, it's a good job to be offered. But those who made the appointment must clearly have a poor understanding of the rules and principles of governing and good governance.

Gracita calls them out

Only problem is, blaming others is the only way these jokers can cover up and distract from the growing list of failures, incompetence and the poor job they do on the local level. The list doesn't need to be written again, it is evident all around us.

Thank you Will Johnson

A thank you goes out to Will Johnson that brought up this subject. Otherwise it appears that no one including the press questioned the appointment.
The only forum that had the balls to question this appointment was this website SXMPE and Leopold James.
I remember quite clearly some writers that enjoy the political stutus quo writing on this site that bloggers here were off the mark.
Millicent is a dear lady, but as long as her brother Leroy Deweever is an IC member her appointment as acting Lt. Governor is in violations of the ERNA rules.
Punt Uit. The next step is that one of the two has to resign.

DH appears to have been looking into it

The DH article does say that the lawyer in Curacao was presented with the question by them. His reply, that it is so blatantly obvious that this appointment goes against ERNA, really, to my mind, raises serious questions about Lt Governor Richards and others who made the appointment decision.

Will Johnson and another member raised this very serious issue recently in Parliament. Maybe you missed this news article if you only depend on the herald limited news online. W.Johnson said clearly that Millicent deWeever is his friend but when something is wrong it is wrong.
I question also Lt. Governor Richards as the highest authority bestowed to carry our proper rules and governance and upholding law and order on the island territory of St.Maarten.

legal or illegal appointment

I have the highest respect and admiration for Mr .Will Johnson, and he should know what he's talking about when it comes to the workings of our government administration. Can anyone comment on the legal appointment of Acting Lt Govenor Milliscent Acuna Lopez?

There's seems to be some confusion in the translations in the ERNA relating to her appointment. There's was a change in the law a while back that says that if she was appointed Acting Lt Governor BEFORE her brother got elected to the island council, then he would have to resign. Although he is elected by the voters.

In this case, she was appointed after he took office; therefore the whole saga is not illegal.
The general perception is that there shouldn't be any bloodlines between an appointed official and one sitting on the highest governing body of the island, the island council.
It smells of bad governance, because she chairs the island council in the absence of Gov Richards and her brother sits in the council as part of the governing party, the DP.
The bigger pictures is that her appointment was sanctioned by the EXCO and approved by the governor general.
There is some presidence somewhere, which make this appointment legal, or else it would have been anulled by the Governor General of the NA.
Legal minds out there, let's here your take on this one
