Some quotes from SMN-news:
Drs. James: “One has to be sick to have confidence in this government since the corruption is widespread”.
He described St. Maarten as a magnet meaning that it draws foreigners. “That way nothing changes, because the immigrants know exactly from whom they will get their favors, these people he says form questionable relationship with politicians”

Jerry Sardine spoke of the carnival type election campaign and the fact that local politicians engage in vote buying. He said that people should not be afraid to vote and that the fact politicians are buying their constituency is not good. As for the readiness of the people on the constitutional change, Sardine said that the politicians are not giving the people the proper tools such as a draft of the constitution.

{{Indeed, so they can compare the pro's and con's properly. I think a draft of the constitution should be published in both TDH and Today. Also, the community must have the opportunity of giving criticism, so all letters ought to be published.}}

In the meantime NOVA crew has a line up of four prominent St. Maarten citizens whom they plan to interview. The crew intends to leave St. Maarten today and they will be airing their interviews sometime next week in the Netherlands.

{{Does anyone know who these four prominent St. Maarteners are/will be?}}

It seems to me getting a crackpot like (Drs.?) James to comment on corruption in St. Maarten is one sure way to discredit the effort to expose corruption. It is like getting a UFO nut to comment on area 51. As he rales about the injustice done to "native" St. Marteeners, One would think he is king of the Arawaks. There are plenty of people of good reputation NOVA can talk to about corruption without going to the nut cases.

what kind of a hog wash editorial is this? (The Nova Editorial)

Well I am happy that this editorial is here for everyone to read. First time I am reading this crap.
Who wrote this? I doubt if Hilbert Haar would write this crap. Seems more like something up Richard Gibson's alley.
To NOVA: Please make a note that Mr. Richard Gibson is desperately seeking the high job of Minister of Justice or Attorney General in Country St.Maarten.
This man is on a top high ranking career campaign. SXM is a corrupt thieves nest and the RST and prosecutor office allows much to go on, not because they don't know, well many times they really don't have a clue, but because they feel that they will be unpopular if they start to pick up politicians. Please ask the relevant questions; where did Roy Marlin and Louis Laveist work before they entered politics? what was their income? what is their income now? how is it possible for one of them to have a mortgage on a home in Point Blanche, come into possession of another house in Dawn beach, own a gas station, own a building near Tropicana Casino? all on a Commissioners salary?
Laveist lives in Pelican Key, how? who is his sponsor? while he has his own home in Cole Bay where his wife is living. This home went through an extensive renovation by one of the largest construction companies that get many contracts from government. These and many more come to mind when I think of corruption. Work permits for foreigners for a certain hotel (time share sales office) was recently issued very fast. Who signed these work permits? Were there any ads in the newspaper asking locals to come in for these jobs at this sales office at the OBBR?
Talk has it that the new time share Manager came on vacation and secured his job while on vacation and the hotel had work and resident permits ready in a jiffy. Again questions to be asked... moreover immigration should go pay a nice visit to buy timeshare.
NOVA might not be here to bring a beautiful light to SXM, but if it opens up the smelly sewer and bring light so people can see, our people might just learn a lesson on how to vote responsibly.
