The man is a well known figure and is responsible for several road projects have a history of bad behavior when he is under the influence of alcohol. The latest incident occurred last Sunday when the Civil Servant identified as K.R had an accident on the A.T Illidge road while driving a government vehicle.

If you are back to work, please get help for your alcoholism. While no one disputes your sound education as a civil engineer and the good work you put into projects, you are an ass when you drink. Most alcoholics refuse to admit they have a problem, it is only social drinking they say, it is always someone elses fault they say.
The people that know you are saying get help, AA meets at Mullet Bay every Sat and Sunday at 8am. Stop the drinking and stop sociallising the ladies of the night.
Be a big man and admit you have a problem and be a bigger man and do something about it.

Cocky as usual.
Goes to say you can't change a leopard skin. His comeback after that scandal went too easy thus allowing him to pick back up his bad habits: Disrespectful and Abusive character. He does this anywhere, anyhow and to anyone. Enough with this guy.
Perhaps Theo should pay closer attention if he's the person we want to see on any Government project.

He may be a local, a friend, family but hey he has a problem.

As long as he's doing his job. That's all that counts.

And it's fairly common for engineers to have a drinking problema...same goes for some of the exco members. Do you really think T doesn't know?? God, they share that interest!

Don't get me wrong, | share your views on this but I find the event that KR gets arrested highly unlikely. SXM-style...family makes the difference...

Without known drunk drivers on the roads. As with many things here, we will probably just have to wait until he kills someone before he wakes up or gets help.

Kurt has been behaving himself for a while. Now it seems like he's hitting the cocktails again and verbally abusing Mr Martina, who he has to work along side on all road projects. I'm sure Mr Martina, who is a very soft spoken Police Officer was shocked at Kurt 's crazy outburst,
The course of action taken by his superiors is a wise one. Hopefully this time will make him reflect on his behavior towards law enforcement.

Mr Ruan needs serious help or he will endanger himself and others. There are several incidents where Mr Ruan has been sited. He drove another government vehicle into the Salt Pond a few years ago. I'm not even going to go into the Dutch intern who ran down the street naked early one morning after leaving the home of Mr Ruan. These facts are on file at the Police Department. There are many other statements made to Police about Ruan's behavior. He's a government official and should be held accountable for his action. We cannot continue to look the other way and keep on making excuses for a young man who is out of control.

Who is not with fault, cast the first stone!

Would you have even made a remark if he wasn't a civil servant? Maybe we should take a look at all our citizens and see who needs help. The guy just drank too much for the night. He should be cited and sent home or maybe some other reprimanding, but what I read here goes again too far.

I am not at all a fan of Kurt and friends, but I agree that this goes too far.

I don't think the general premise of this thread goes too far, which is basically that KR is a repeat offender of DUI and drunken confrontation. I have serious concerns and a problem with this, I think anybody who uses the roads of the island, basically everyone, should have too. He puts my life in danger and yours, and those of our friends and who we love.
This is not about scoring political points because he works for Theo, it is about the danger he and others like him represent to the rest of us and if we think it's acceptable or not, I do not. As public official he should be setting a better example and held to higher standards, thats just how it is if you want to be a leader in public govt life. If KR was a real man he would apologize to the public and police for his reckless and irresponsible behavior and announce he will join AA to help him with his drinking problems.

This thread is borderline, being a drunk driver and having a history and reputation of an alcoholic is a personal issue, but it is also a public issue. If he was sitting at home drinking and endangering no one but himself then I could care less. But he is not, and being a man about it would go a long way towards letting other drunks on our roads know that is is not acceptable, from anyone.

OK, when you put it this way I agree. In a former posting - which I cannot find anymore, probably in another blog/thread - I asked if it was about DUI in general. Because that is a serious problem. When I understand LH well, it is not specifically about KR, but about safe traffic. Well, in that case, let's discuss the safety of traffic on SXM. There are some points to make, I would say.

well said LH

Well said Local Hero. I hope all other drivers who think it ok to drive with a bottle of Heini in one hand while balancing the steering wheel will pay attention.
SXM is the only place I have ever seen on earth where drivers are seen driving while drinking a beer at 9am in the morning.
We have too many persons that frequent night clubs, drink heavily and then decide to drive to another establishment or home. I am a frequent early morning walker and I can tell you what I see on the roads at 5:30am is incredible.
With SXM limited or non existent sidewalks, it is a challenge for persons like myself that enjoy the early morning stroll to keep our eyes on the traffic from in front but also from behind.
Cars swaying from one lane to the next with upcoming traffic, drivers that seem as if they are asleep or almost asleep, drivers who drive as maniacs at high speeds without regards for pedestrians, dogs, cats, other drivers. you name it, we have it.
Sometime ago, 2 ladies were hit during their morning walk on Brouwers road by some reckless hit and run driver with no regards for human life. The police at the time said that the ladies were not walking on a sidewalk. I was highly offended as there are hardly any sidewalks, and it appears from such a reaction from the police that they were in favour of the driver.
Sector Health care should be promoting walking, running on the island, even for persons that enjoy their fresh air early morning walk. To those 2 ladies, I have not forgotten you and hoping the 2 of you are doing well, I remember there was some serious surgery involved. I do hope that the reckless driver was found and was made to pay for medical expenses.
