Yesterday a Sad Day for Police Force - 6th February 2008

From the SMN News Website

Philipsburg: --- Police officers on St. Maarten were indeed sad when they got the news that their former chief commissioner Derrick Holiday who just last week was relieved from his duties was arrested for allegedly forging immigration documents. Yesterday the officers who said they are planning to fight against Holiday’s removal were nowhere to be seen. Those that were visible did not want to say anything about the recent developments surrounding the police department on St. Maarten except to say that it is sad day for the police force and they don’t foresee any recovery in the near future. Some say this will go down in the history of the Antilles while others are saying that the Minister of justice is paving the way for the Dutch to take over.

It is clear that the officers on St. Maarten are not happy with the way things are going but many of them are not willing to speak out in the open. In the meantime, the police union is not willing to make an open statement at this time as they are busy preparing to fight against the decision of the Minister of Justice David Dick who said that he will be assigning either a Dutch man or someone who is from Suriname to the top vacant spot on St. Maarten.

In the meantime the man in the street is saying they are ashamed of what has happened on their island and are predicting that commissioners will soon join Holiday and Loor in prison. One outspoken citizen who is part of a concerned group called the Minister the “Dynamic Dick” who he said has listened to the cries of the people and is busy cleaning up the corruption on St. Maarten. “We have had enough of nonsense with everyone who has had power” the man said the time as come for a total clean up.

Meanwhile, yesterday many talk show hosts were bombarded with phone calls suggesting that the investigators have a list of persons who will be arrested. One caller even mentioned the name of at least one commissioner whom they say is the next in line.
