The EWE Saga - Cont.

So here we are again, the Emilio Wilson Estate back in the news with Henri "I want' to be a Millionaire" Brookson announcing that he is now the owner of the Estate.

So far I have been unable to confirm this, my sources tell me they have not been able to confirm an official record of this sale/tranfer or whatever it is. Considering that the company Henri is fronting for (or is this move on his own?) have lied about purchasing the estate before (1st Jan 06), it's difficult to know what the truth is.

Please join me below for a short stroll down 'memory lane' and to discuss this story.

For those of you who don't know your way around SXM PE, take a look down the right hand side in the Main Threads list and you will find a link to the Emilio Wilson Estate and Park, there you will find a library of news going back to September 2005 when Hen Ling Soon bought the matter to the public's attention.

Here are a few highlights...

Remember the 3 man committee that was going to follow up on the first IC resolution to preserve the property and report back in 90 days? It didn't happen, apparently because Roy Marlin (for it is he) couldn't find a 3rd person for the team, instead he finally decided to go forward with just 2.. Was there really no one qualified and willing to be on the committee or did no one want to get involved in what now appears to be a sham deal.

According to my last contacts with EWE Foundation members, the Govt has not yet responded to their requests to meet on this issue and no report ever appeared. Maybe an intrepid and brave reporter will ask about this committee and report and if the govt actually did anything at all to follow through on either of it's two resolutions to preserve the property. Roy did say the Govt was serious about it and was pursuing several avenues, they have had over 2 years now.

My guess is that they did diddly squat.

Moving on, or rather, back, lets remember the rumors of a meeting held at the Antillian House in Holland when Richards and Theo went there to make the Harbor Shares buyback deal. It was reported that a meeting was held around the same time with representatives of EWE BV and Henri Brookson, the SXM plenipotentiary at the time, to discuss the property and their plans.

The EWE Foundation did contact Henri Brookson about this meeting but I have no word that any reply was recieved. They did get one from Paul Comenencia however, the Minister Plenipotentiary, who states that when he asked Brookson about the EWE he was basically brushed off and told to talk to Richards instead, advice he passed on to the foundation. It is unknown if the EWEF contacted Richards concerning this, but they did send him a letter a couple weeks previous to Comenencia's letter requesting a meeting with the Exco, which I believe they are still awaiting a reply to.

EWE BV themselves state in a letter to parties objecting to the development that they have letters from govt officials, including Richards, going back to 2004 stating there are no objections to the development and that they would give all assistance to obtaining the permits, Richards even picked out a prime spot just below the 200 meter line for a new Governor's Residence. The letter from the BV is quite interesting, informing us all that Roy was involved in the deal making at least as far back as April 2005, 5 months before the public had any clue.

No stroll down memoriy lane would be complete without mention of
Henri Brookson's contract with EWE BV, dated July 21st, while he was still a govt civil servant. This contract would have made Henri a millionaire, plenty to share around and pay back favors if need be. Henri's contract was discussed on the Eldrige van Putten Show in February 2006 and is examined quite well. Have a listen....

Henri also claimed that Emilio wanted to sell the Estate and he offered up a simple letter dated January 1993 as proof. Unfortunately for him, Emilio is on record at a much later date with other plans and wishes for his property. Henri's letter is also interesting like the one from the BV, in it he mentions that the BV had bought the property with the condition permits would be granted and that the govt can't deal with the heirs until this agreement is annulled, by the BV. Is this what held the govt back from doing anything?

I wrote a response to the letterwhich sounded right to me at the time, and so did the EWEF. I would add now though that perhaps the sudden withdrawnof enthusiastic report wasn't just because of the public outcry, but maybe also because some people were finding themselves in too deep?

There's lots more and tt's difficult to pull myself away from this stroll with you, but I must. Go explore the Emilio Wilson Thread and see what treasures you can find. Do you remember the 'Butler'? And whatever happened to the 'caretaker'?

There's lots of questions that should be asked about the EWE Saga, and not just by the people of the island but I suspect also justice and government authorities. They could start by asking Henri if he is really the owner or just telling porky pies, if his answer is yes then a follow up would be, "Where did the money come from?"

I think the guy is a BS artist myself.

I know that many people are interested in the Emilio Wilson Estate saga, Many persons in the community called myself, Rueben and Mr. Patrick in the last few days with questions.
The Emilio Wilson Estate foundation keep insisting that the lower part of the estate is of historical value as was stated in the report compiled by Archaeologist Jay Haviser and the upper part is of enormous ecological value as is stated in the ECOVISION report, the AIDE environment report and a 1996 biological inventory.
The Emilio Wilson Estate foundation is urging the government to zone the Estate as a historical, cultural and ecological land park.
Only by zoning this area for this purpose can we be sure that the estate will remain free from rampant human development.
The Emilio Wilson Estate foundation will be releasing a press release very soon as more developments may be taking place.
The Fort Amsterdam was zoned as a historical site a few years ago, our Lt. Governor Frank Richards made this his first priority when he took office.
So it does not matter who owns the estate. We are more than 30 years late with zoning areas on St. Maarten, even though the Federal Government mandated to all island territories to start zoning in the 70's.
The Emilio Wilson Estate is a saga that should be written as it reads a novel.
This local SXM hero held on to his land all his life, his great grand mother was a slave on one of the plantations. The estate boasts the former Golden Rock and Industry plantations. Emilio bought it from his former employer and held on to this land up until his death.
Before his death, Emilio gave a piece of his land in a long lease to the Emilio Wilson Historical and Cultural foundation. This park is used today by many in the community for weddings, funerals, students, mini-golf, summer day camps, and just quiet time.
But now in his grave, there are many that are like hungry wolves-everyone wants to develop this last piece of green area for their own personal gains.
Something that Emilio was against, see his video posted on this site.
In the coming days the Emilio Wilson Estate foundation will be releasing a press release. It really does not matter who owns the estate, we will still be calling for the entire estate to be zoned.
People out there are asking why Brookson so eagerly put himself in the lime lite as the new owner, they are questioning his motive.
They are also speculating that it seems he is eager to sell, some are speculating that if government does not buy it -he might just re-apply for a new planning permit under his name. Time will tell who are the hungry wolves.
I am sure there will be more drama in the coming weeks.

Emilio Wilson will

Has anyone seen an article that was on smn news network last week concerning a lien that was placed on the Emilio Wilson Estate by persons mentioned in the will?
It appears that Mr. Henry Brookson is so eager to report his new property as his, he forgot about the persons mentioned in the will as receiving monies as mentioned in the last testament of Emilio.
Since the elderly Wilson had no large cash to speak of, the only way these people mentioned in the will can receive their fls.100.000 and fls.200.000 is when the land is sold or changes hand.
Does anyone know if Brookson is finally the owner registered at the Kadaster office? While the Daily Herald prints press releases, little do they bother to follow up and check to see if Brookson is the new owner of estate.
Up to late last week he was not registered as yet.
From reliable sources it appears that Brookson has used a Dutch family as the financiers.
Now why would Brookson go and do that? After all the uproar that has been going on for almost 3 years?
1.Does he believe he will be able to get a planning permit?
2.Did he buy the estate for flipping? Meaning he bought it for 1 million and he will sell to Government for $8 million?
3. Is this man so damn stubborn that he refuses to see clearly that he would become he is one of the most loathed individuals if he continues on this path?
4. He must have convinced the Dutch family something so great if he managed to get them to invest in this property.
5.Why has the Island Government been so lax and silent on this issue since the Island Resolution of July 2007?
6. Is there someone in the EXCO who is backing Brookson? While Laveist has said he supports the preservation of the Estate, Maria Buncamper made her last political jingle with words expressing the preservation, This leaves Marlin, Heyliger and Sarah Westcot Williams open for questions on where they stand.
At one point it was being said that there could be funds in the Harbour buy back shares to purchase the Estate.
The Emilio Wilson Estate foundation is correct. It is imperative that government zones the estate first. Nothing to it, Fort Amsterdam was zoned not too long ago. It allows Mr. Brookson to own the estate all he wants for his glory and his larger than his head ego, but he would not be granted permits to build.
Divi owns Fort Amsterdam, they will never be granted permits to build any hotel rooms, condos or such sort buildings. Of course they can organise guided tours or walks, create a small museum up on the fort, in my opinion they should market the fact that they have the only old fort on their hotel property. If their marketing teams have any sense this is a plus for their hotel property.
They can even bring Peter Stuyvesant back to life by having dinners in his honor, have Old Peter meet the guests in the lobby when they check in etc, etc.
But Brookson is a mighty old greedy scamp, it remains to be seen what he is up too, my guess is that he really wants to be a millionare, even if it is on the backs of our ancestors, planters and slaves alike.
