Law and Order - SXM Style

Again and again, basic human rights are abused and disregarded in St. Maarten. Suspects held longer than the law permits before charge, cramped into disgusting and unhealthy cells, sometimes with violent prisoners. Police abuse and incompetance goes uninvestigated and unpubished again and again and all the top management and authorites have to say is that we should support them, have faith, trust.

I don't, I'm sorry. None, zero, nada. zilch!

Taco and Dick, two clowns incapable of dealing with, confronting or even acknowledging the underlying disgraceful and shameful justice system we have here on St. Maarten. Third World is what it is, Banana Republic Justice and Law Enforcement.

Taco, you promise reports all the time, remember the Gay Bashing? You promised one about the police response to that incident and we never heard back from you.

Remember this man who was deported back to Guyana and claimed he was beaten by St. Maarten Police? No report, afterall, the guy was swiftly and convieniently deported.

How about the guy who got shot dead by the police in Dutch Quarter in June 2005 during a raid for non existant drugs and guns. Whatever happened to that investigation and report?

Or maybe the drunk guy in Simpson Bay who apparently witnessed a crime and got beaten up, twice. Apparently beating people up is ok, this letter explains the situation better and this woman seems to have experienced police and justice indifference quite horribly.

Or the woman at home with her two children who was terrified by someone trying to break into her house but could get no help from the police.

Or what about this story of a man getting a 'brutal beating' by the police in June 2006, could it be possible one of these women was a policeman's wife or girlfriend? Not a thing was heard again about it, I guess he was deported too eh?

We could ask what is the progress with the Angelique Chauvire murder case, are you happy that the person/s who commited this are still unknown among us?

I could go on and on and on. The stories above are old news really, there are dozens more cases that have happened since that have been treated in exactly the same way.

The man in the photo below was made to sit, in his underpants in a a police van for 40 minutes, his crime, being without papers. It's not the first time that suspects, sometimes innocent, have been subjected to humiliating and degrading treatment, it happens repeatedly, again and again.

Our police force top management disgust me, they are not up to the job and task of bringing SXM Justice into 21st century. Dicky claimed recently that his focus has been on improving police management

Can anyone tell me what exactly his focus has accomplished?

15.9% of crimes solved.
Hady Nufyet | Sat, 2008-01-05 16:22

2,197 recorded cases of theft. Most victims did not retrieve their stolen property, because the police only managed to solve 177 cases.

Every year we get these articles about crime figures, they make little sense, the numbers are confusing and the infomation in them is limited and screwy. Just what is the difficulty of printing a chart instead of this gobbledeegook?

For a small island, these figures show to me just how inept and bad our justice and police systems are.

Criminal activity still at record level - 5th January 2008

Hello all,

I am a U.S. citizen who will be in St. Maarten over the next year or so. I will only have a tourist visa so there will be brief interruptions in my stay. I am very interested in the Juvenile System on the island; especially juvenile crime, prevention, recidivism etc. Do you have any suggestions for good reading about the subject? Also, I would very much like to be involved as a volunteer with some local organization advocating for justice on the island. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Erin

Hello Erin,

What is your goal with this? is this a school or University project? if you give some sort of explanation, will be of help. Getting close to these type of institutions require a back ground check of yourself and some references.

Law & Order

I agreed 100% with you. The only solution is to take the law in your own hands when it comes to protect yourself and your family. The reason why we dont have law and order i s because of the present profile of this society. Every one is behind the dollar and no one cares. Also we have a lot of cowards in this society. They are afraid to take a stand for their rights. Look at my own situation. Just last week I called the chief prosecutor in connection with a case that I have with Tony Rogers. More then two years I am fighting for my rights. Recently he went to Suckergarden and again take the law in his own hand. It was big in the papers but no follow up. I wrote to every one that is part of the Justice System including the Chief Prosecutor Mr. Joubert and Minister David Dick. I sat in front of the minister in his office in Curacao on August 24, 2007 and he told me within 8 days he would have a result for me. Up to now nothing. This is the trend my friend. On a positive note I am alive and I thank the Good Lord for that. After 35 years I now feel that it is time to move on. It is not about greener pasture but more about peace of mind.

Who is supplying the guns?

Seems to me that it's our own law enforcement that is doing a good job as weapons suppliers.
