What do you want for Christmas?

The poem below was posted by Anonymous and I thought it might be nice to have it posted as a blog and see if anyone else feels like sharing their Xmas wish list, You can do it as a regular comment or in poetry if you feel creative and inspired and if there are enough entires then maybe we can put them up in a poll and choose a winner. Not sure what we can give as a prize just now, but we´ll think of something or maybe a reader or business owner wants to offer something?

Dear Santa

I was making my list for Christmas and strangely enough I realized,
I no longer want toys and games, or even socks or shirts or ties

For the first time on Christmas I am thinking of more than all the fuss
But our basic rights that our government has taken away from us.

I want running water every day, not to find my water off anymore
Can’t take a shower or flush the toilet, wash the clothes or even mop the floor

I want the traffic jams to disappear and paved the potholes that would be a perk
I don’t want to spend 90 minutes, trying to get home from work

I want my kids to be safe in school, focused on learning what to do right
Don’t want to worry about drugs and sex, or knives and gangs or how to fight

There is one more thing I ask of you, please take away the ever-growing garbage isle
The flies, the garbage, the fires, aren’t good for us, even better what about recycling that pile?

Instead of more taxes, no water, crime, traffic, garbage and pigs all around,
I want real solutions to these problems to be found

I used to think that I did not have to ask for this, it was part of my citizens’ rights you see
If this is a preview of what Country St. Maarten will be like, I really wonder how supportive I can be

The government always blamed Curacao for everything that went wrong everywhere
Take the federal government away and we can see what is going on here

Country St. Maarten was supposed to make everything better for me and you
But even I know when things are much too good to be true

A True Believer in Santa Claus

Santa watch out

Dear Santa,

I'm writing to you, this season of seasons,
with some warnings, for many reasons.

There are a few that might make you think twice
about who's been bad, naughty or nice

I speak of a certain local website
that seems to want to pick a fight

with everyone on this little rock
from the guys on the street, straight to the top

they spend more time talking about trees
then they do about the youth it seems

but far more often it's open season
on politicians, often with no reason

other than to put forward an overal image
that they may not realize is leaving lots of damage

to the reputation of our beautiful isle
that used to be filled to the brim with smiles

so maybe you thought that this site was an indication
of the ins and outs of this tourist destination

but rest assured, not all that glitters is gold
and some may find what i say to be bold

but this little rock is heaven on earth
but you knew that already, since the day of your birth

so if you are still coming despite what you've heard
then take my advice, and follow my few words,

This xmas instead of wrapping some presents
tell this site to listen to the peasants

we don't need more talk about political bashing,
that's for in the line at the supermarket, (while you're cashing)

what we need is love , what we need is a ray
of light, of courage. I hope it can fit in your sleigh.

So dear santa, in closing i write
please don't listen to the laments of this website

- a true believer in the people of st.maarten , xmas time or not

Dear Santa

Dear Santa Claus, I'll let you know
The few things that I need,
And if you'll bring them to me
I'll be much obliged indeed.

I want a helicopter,
And a boat that's painted red,
So I can avoid the traffic,
You need not bring a sled,

For saving gas I also want
a donkey or a horse,
A place where I can keep them,
And hay, too, of course.

Now, Santa dear, you'll not forget.
I wish you'd write them down,
And leave them all at my house
When you journey through the town.

I want a Government that is respopnsible and speaks for all of the people not just the select few, with alot of conflict of interest. I want to see a Proper Head of Education because we had lacked one generation (at least) of improper education, and remember these will be our leaders some day. There is no way at this point that Sint Maarten can seek country status unless we have another change of government. They just don´t give a damm about the people, their only interests are raping the land and letting thep people suffer. The price of Electricity alone would cover a Mansion in Beverly Hills, I know I've lived there, and of course water is another story (l and half days emergency supply), So Santa I hope you can bring some light to Sint Maarten and it;s people and all the living things there as well. It' seems as though these last years there is no appreciation for life itself.

Thanks you, Santa

Dear Santa,
You know I am no poet like my fellow bloggers.
I would really like if you can bash some common sense into Commissioner Maria Buncamper's head that she did wrong by appointing her husband to a Governments owned company.
While her party leader Sarah Wescot is saying they committed no wrong as the law does not stipulate it is illegall. Dear Santa I know you are a wise man and you know that this act is an unethical one.
While you are cruising on your sled Santa, please pass by the Lt. Governor's house and have a small chat with this chap, incase you forgot the adress, it is the yellow painted house up on the hill across from the Great Bay Beach Hotel.
Santa, our Lt. Governor has also approved the appointment of a Commissioner's spouse without a flinch, and he is always speaking about code of conducts and good and proper ethics and transparancy, Santa this chap is just a talker with no substance. Instead of being a good lt. Governor and sending the appointment for review to the Governor General to object to as he did with a certain casino license -he took issue with a senior citizen by the name of Eddy Williams who publically stated his opinionated rights as we should be doing in a democratic society.
Poor Eddy Williams was sent a letter by this Chap asking for an apology on the radio as he thinks that Eddy insulted his education by calling them nincompoops several times to describe the Lt. Governor Chap, The EXCO and entire Island Council.
Santa, I am not asking anything personall for me, all I want for Xmas is for you to come speak sense to this Lt. Governor Chap and the rest of the EXCO.
If this fails Santa, I think we will have no other course but to send next years wish list to the Netherlands and ask them to come save us from these fools that will take us down to a banana republic with nepotism appointments to government owned company boards.

Dear Santa man

For this x-mas, I would like our Island government to give the commissioner of Public works, Mr Theo.H a few more $$$ to execute the road plan now catching dust in the archives, because after spending 3 million guilders on studies and consultants, we will still be in traffic for the next 3 years.
I would like Mr Marlin to work for the people and not himself. I think his pocket is well greased already.

I was like Maria Molanus Bumcamper to buy a dictionary and read the meaning of nepotism.
I would like Sarah Williams to stop using words not in the dictionary or come up with a compilation of words to be added to the dictionary at some point.
I would like Louis Laveist to smell or look at the lagoon behind his house and to meet with the environmentalist to come up with sound solutions for our dying lagoon.
I would like the Lt Governor to grow some longer toes and pass the integrity policy for government, and hold all accountable. I'm sure there are some chapters in the ERNA about integrity, or least a couple lines.

I would like Frans, William, George, Hyacinth, Samuel, to get off their royals and remember the island council is the highest body of government and they can also make proposals on the floor of the island council.

I would like Gerard Bijnsdorp to send Terry Peterson a piece of rotten wood for Xmas and stop wasting space in the print media.

To all others have a safe and Merry XMAS, remember Guavaberry is not a shot, drink in moderation.

great stuff

I enjoyed your Santa wish. Everything said. Well with an exception of the Terry-Bijnsdorp matter. Why does Terry take everything so seriously? I am sure an over educated man like Terry who uses words and sentences that most of us cannot bear to comprehend, understand that Bijnsdorp writing is humor mixed with satire?
Message to Terry; Lighten up in 2008, you scare some us with your sharp responses.
