True Wisdom Expressed! margaret25 | Mon, 2007-10-29 14:05
YES! What of St. Maarten Today?
The article is truly an expression of wisdom and not merely a textbook theoretical exposition of which is important. Rather this is one’s exposure to the recognized importance of globalization and undoubtedly adds substance toward St. Martin’s highly warranted cultural, socio, economical and environmental redress.
One of the unfortunate elements related to the so-called powers that be is the non-recognition of our professionals who have the above expressed attributes. I am of the opinion that, symbolically they are afraid or threatened by those who have recognized aspirations in so wanting to make a contribution as professionals within there respective fields during this period. Accordingly this is hindering the values of a liberal democracy compounded by, an even broader non-recognition of St. Martins current Intellectual and Professional Revolution.
Cases in point as was highlighted in the Hearld of Friday gone, let us see who will replace Curtis Haynes as CEO at SMITCOMS. Will it be a local (termed broadly) who has proven professional skills coming from our backyard and supported by regional also international qualifications supplemented by a comprehension of both private and public sectors.
I can identify at least three highly qualified St. Martiners (termed broadly) who may be categorized as over qualified therefore not suitable for the position, again symbolically based on those predetermined agendas. In paradox, there is already a job placement add being ran internationally seeking a suitable person. The elders would say "What A Ting".
We need to address the best of what we have in our backyard firsthand and make our professionals feel welcomed by seeking them out with no reservations. Our professionals need not seek respect and compensation in a global marketplace beyond there own backyard; on the contrary, they should be representing St. Martin as a Nation directly from inside the backyard and not via-via!
If we are about to address matters of growth and development in a synchronized manner toward a strong position embodied within globalization. It is imperative we address our homegrown human resources on all professional levels and not present an implied approach prior to painstakingly seeking out and exhausting all avenues of dialogue with our homegrown professional expertise.
The article by Jason Lista is one of vision and must be commended and I do so with professional respect as I quote “it (St. Maarten) must embrace the values of open debate and self-critique”.
