Sounds like a good idea.

This control will , as usual , antagonise the honest traveller.

Bet you the genuine traveller, probably a second home owner in the island with a pocket full of credit cards and cash is more likely to fall foul of these controls than the illegal worker.

Immigration is like water. It always follows the easiest route.

90 Day Stay
Anonymous (not verified) | Sun, 2007-11-25 17:20

After being temporally detained, I can assure all that I wont be investing my money in housing or property & this island , just so I can have the pleasure of a 90 day total stay over the course of a year in my multimillioan dollar house.
This is not the Freindly Island I once knew but the "Island of Broken Promises"
I also so consider this a island of corruption beyond which I have ever seen.
For a price you can buy your residency, skip your car inspections, purchase a NV,ignore your taxs,or hire illegal immigrants-leaglly lol.
This list doesn't end as this website well proves.
Because 90% of what I read here is the known truth.
I pity this country if & when you acheive your country status,I can only imagine the corruption than-so long real St.Maartener's! There will be nothing left for you as if there is now.
You can all say take your money & get out but the last laugh will be on you & your island.

island & 90 day stay

You know, you may be right. On SXM you can purchase an NV very easy, skipping the car inspection happens often, to hire illegals is becoming a way of life, and many people don't pay taxes. The person is not mashing our toes, he's right. There is corruption and we all know it, we can see it and smell it.

Althought the immigration can be rude at times, their job is to make sure that the entry rules to the island is followed. Citizens from various countries around the world just think that they should just walk in and leave when they want, because St.Maarten is the friendley island and you may buy a home and start a new job the next day without any regard for the country's regulation- ofcourse most people won't bother to find out until they get in trouble or have to defend their stauts on the island.

We have always been a welcoming little island. So please don't get insulted if we ask you to show a return ticket when you enter. Matter of fact, the airline on which you came should have made that clear.

Don't bash the laws buddy

Before you complain about our 90-day stay as a tourist, why don't you fix your little mexican immigrant problem in the good old USA first? our policy is far kinder than anything the US offers and in fact, it's because of this that people took advantage of it. As posted above, if you have a house, then apply for a residency permit..since you plan on spending more than 3 months at a time here....and as for the local friendliness, we certainly are friendly, and will continue to be, but if you are not complying with the law, then we will kindly remind you that it's just that....the law.

OK, but....

....before you leave our corrupt and broken island, could you give me your multimillion dollar home? I would really appreciate it, since me, my family and my friends who live an incredibly wonderful life here, will be sticking around for the long haul.
If you were detained for absolutely no reason whatsoever, then why didn't you write to the papers?
You know what? I will never be detained or insulted or accused of any wrong doing - you know why? Because I am a legal, tax paying, innocent-of-any-crime individual. No smoke from any fire over here. So, sorry to say (well, not really), but you get what you deserve. Always. It's the Law of Attraction.

Get you info right

Before you start attacking another country right to make their rules and laws get you info right first. The 90 days is if you are coming here as a tourist. If you have a house here you can ask for a resident permit. And this will granted as long you can proof you have a house and that you can financially support yourself. If I go to the US i also get 90 days and if I want to live there I need to get a green card, house or not. So please do not be one of those americans that thinks the world belongs to america, because I know the majority do not think so.
