Lt Governor concerned about findings in SXM organised crime report

Lt Governor Franklyn Richards said to the Daily Herald on Tuesday that as Local Chief of Police he was particularly concerned about the findings of the crime situation and organised crime on the island, not because the contents of the report were entirely new, but because "this detailed three-year study acutely underscores the need for timely implementing measures".

In 2004, the then minister of justice of the Netherlands Antilles commissioned a study of organised crime taking place on the islands of Saba, St Eustatius and St Maarten and the methods used to combat such criminal activity. The report was presented this week to the current Netherlands Antilles Justice Minister David Dick.

Organized Crime Report
GP1957 | Thu, 2007-10-11 15:41

WOW,it took 3 years to present from these"Experts" this report.
To find out what everybody know already!!!
Is New that Sint Maarten is a transhipping point for drugs with final destination USA or Europe mainly Holland(Where demand is increasingly high!)???
If they find out that Casinos are Money Laundry Businesses and they "HAVE" proofs, why the competent authorities dont make any arrests??

This Report it look more to me an other way(Dutch way) to say;
Sint Maarten is not ready to be on his own,NEED HIGHER SUPERVISION.

The timing is very suspicious(IMHO)
Time will tell

fingerpointing

And immediately the fingerpointing started. Sarah says it is federal business, so Curacao should deal with it. David Dick saying that some of it was known, but that now is an opportunity to work on it. The Lt.Gov. finally sys that there is a need for measures. And minister Hirsch Ballin does not want to comment on it, because it is Antillean business. As if this is not a kingdom matter...

Come on. I would say that a joint effort has to be made. And waiting for Curacao to show up is probably the worst scenario. David Dick is living 1000 km away and SXM is going for country status, so why bother?

So Sarah, Franklyn, ExCo, make security, anti-terrorism, anti-laundering etc.etc. to be one of the priority points to work on. And think about this: for these things it is not a shame to call for Dutch (or other) help, I would say. Desperate times call for desperate measures!
