Permits are frivolous details

VROM Head suspended over Indigo Bay permits - 6th September 2007

Anyone surprised? I'm not. I also think that the wrong person is being investigated, or rather, that others should be too, but that's just my opinion.

Permits are frivolous details says Roy Marlin - May 2005

So, did VROM do any studies at all on the project? Did they give advice or make conditions on anything at all? If only we had a real opposition party instead of a bunch of lazy assed good for nothings. (Also my opinion!)

Shame!

Delano was appointed head of vrom, because of his father a(DP) member and friend. But when it comes to be qualified for the job he is NOT! Just like when Mr. Louis Brown was appointed head of vrom, these are all political jobs.

frivolous details, yeah!

When you want to maintain St.Maarten as a "Banana republic within the Kingdom" it are details you should not care about. But I hope that St. Maarteners wants to establish a government and live in a country that is take serious by the rest of the world. That means we should get a transparent government, that publishes its budget, draft laws and all the decisions it takes. E.g. building permits should not "disappear" as they did for example with the Duck-permit. And I seriously do not think that in such a countries government is a place for Roy and several other politicians. I hope in cases as Loor, Richardson and others to come they will search to the bottom (or should I say to the top?)

Big BOOM

Hey Roy, when last did you look around St Maarten?

Chocolate

Roy part of the big boom

Roy does look around and he built a fugly building next to Tropicana Casino as part of his big boom so called economic progress. If Roy said permits are frivilous back in 2005 then what does he expect of his department heads? he set the wrong example to start with.
I will say that everyone in the entire Public works department needs investigating, infact i will go further..... The public works department needs higher supervision. Almost everyone is busy making monies on the side, Delano as well.
The VROM department job is to advise government on physical planning and environmental policies and laws and implement those policies and laws in their advice before the EXCO rubber stamps it. So you can just gather that these people obviously are not doing their jobs. or maybe just incompetent.
My guess is that the same persons who's job it is to advice government are the same ones drawing nice houses and projects for developers, conflict of interest huh?
Don't even start with ROB dep. is the head of that department also the owner of a SBS? Is government buying all the materials at that bussiness? and how about the civil servant that was suspended not too long ago they said for stealing.... stealing materials, people say that the bosses knew about it because it was during election time when certain voters had to receive so called aid.
And where is Theo? He is the new Public Works Commissioner, why is Roy still having shouting matches with personel like Delano? man, when does it stop? when will they realise this massive over development serves no-one, not residents and not visitors.

Head of Vrom

It will be interesting to see the ruling on Mr D Richardson case as it relates to providing a MOU to the Caybay developers. The questions remains, who in fact had knowledge of the letter of comfort. According to Delano, those at the head was very much aware. Martin Le poole statement in the Herald indicates that a member or members of the EXCO was also involved, and ask, Why did the commission Marlin present himself for a photo opt with the developers, while the permits where not in order. Here we go again, deja vu. I think the pot will burst soon on this matter. Has the Lt Govenor ratified or sign off on the permit(s) or not. Has he seen something that is not correct? Does a permit issued in 1999 have a statue of limitation and would changes to the 1999 permit require submitting new documents to support a development vision/plan.
I believe the instructions for obtaining a building permit is clear, why then are those who suppose to inforce the rules, not playing by the rules. Where is the new commisioner of Public works on this matter.

Head of VROM mom pissed off
hotpress | Thu, 2007-09-27 15:43

The story gets better when the mom of Delano who own Paula's County Inn located in South Reward demand her monies NOW for providing housing for the Head of VROM and his children. Paula who happens to be be the mother of the VROM head is getting irritated by government not paying for the accomodations for her son at her facility. Maybe she's right. Being the mother and landlord has nothing to do with each other. It's not abad deal. Think about it, your son or daughter is headhunted in the Netherlands, you agreed to return home and work for Government or the people of St.Maarten. You find room and board at your mom place. The bill is sent to government for your accomodations, laudry ect.
It's win win for the family. Son is back home and mom gets to rent out her place. I think the woman is brilliant. And now all the fuss about the son being suspended from government. There also the fact that government has to pay the legal cost for Mr Delano Richarson. Who gets paid first?

These kind of deals (VROM head mother gets to rent out accommodation to her son) once again show that the pie is shared out amongst the few. Delano should never have accepted the deal with his mom providing his accommodation, moreover his mother should not have agreed to rent out to her son as this would surely raise eyebrows at one point or another. These deals are in my book the same deals as the Police Commissioners collecting house rent while they own the house in question.

And for not getting paid: Ms. Busby join the club. G'ment has made it a bad habit of paying approx. 10 months to late. It's the suppliers of G'ment that really are financing G'ment. So when Roy Marlin says he has a balanced budget: he should add his accounts payable to his budget and will surely see that it's not close to being balanced!

So Ms. Busby: please get in line, we all want to get paid and many were here before you came to collect.

Delano and his wonderful deal

First of all allow me to add that Delano Richardson should not have gotten that position right off the bat, he should have been placed training under Dollisson or someone in an experienced capacity. Form what I am hearing Delano has no previous experience. Then this whole thing with his mother's Inn is a bunch of crock if you ask me.
But then again what do you expect from these people. Here is what I predict, Delano will return to work alright and he will be an outcast, he will get a nice desk with no documents coming his way. He will be paid for just showing up to work.
Again our tax payers monies being wasted. Delano will continue with his job drawing for private individuals, the same people that will need their building design approved by his department... well why not he will say.... others in his office are doing the same and no one complains about them right?

I have realize that the

I have realize that the department heads at ROB including Mr. Dollisson are not qualified for the job, because they were all appointed based on friendship and not based on there qualifications. Sorry, but the whole ROB sector need a complete clean up!! There is to much wrong doing going on in that yellow building. My advice to Delano is give up the fight and get some professional training before taking on the position as department head, because VROM was all ways in a mess and it's just getting worse. So, carrying a so call title don't mean that your qualified, there so many of them carring titles, but don't know what there doing!!!

sorry to Delano's mother
Anonymous (not verified) | Fri, 2007-09-28 09:37

I am sorry for the mother of Delano and what she is going through, I am the person that said previously that this issue was a bunch of crock. I do think she has to bring this issue more forward with Commissioner Roy Marlin as he is the one that decided on his own to make this arrangement.
Again issues like this one that should be decided in a EXCO meeting is being decided upon by single Commissioners who act as soley they are the highest governing body. I can understand Paula Busby wanting her money, I am sure the tax man will be at her door knocking with tax assesments... what is she going to say? that the Island Government has not paid her as yet? so she cannot pay them untill she gets her money?
Like one of the writers said before, this Government owes so many instiutions money and it is difficult to collect from Government and it takes sometimes years.
