What would make the market drop so drastically? Nobody knows. Speculations galore about a possible collapse of the Chinese and US economy or another major terrorist attack Bin Laden style. I didn't make much of it. But this morning my eye fell on a blog post about an imminent attack on Iran. That may be it. Read about it here in the times online and a very interesting interview with a US Navy officer blogged here ("We are shipping in and assigning every damn Tomahawk we have in inventory. I think this is going to be massive and sudden, like thousands of targets.") and judge for yourself if we may be in for something BIG.
There is a good reason I love the Agonist so much. St. Maarten is often like a bubble, like the rest of the world doesn't matter, doesn't concern us and not our problem. One of the reasons I have pushed for renewable energy and conservation is that we are totally reliant on th Rest of the World. Totally.

It will be heavy sustained assault on the airwaves, designed to knock public sentiment into a position from which a war can be maintained. Evidently they don't think they'll ever get majority support for this--they want something like 35-40 percent support, which in their book is "plenty."

WILLEMSTAD – With the deck above the water surface and crewed, the American nuclear submarine USS Albuquerque made the Annabaai harbour this morning. The 110 meter long ship moored at the Brionwerf and will stay here till Tuesday. The unannounced ship most probably comes here for rest and recreation.
The Albuquerque was built in 1973 and came to the surface all over the world; among others when the TWA-aircraft exploded in 1996. It’s true that the submarine was offshore New York at that time, but it had nothing to do with the airplane disaster. The submarine was part of the war fleet ‘Theodore Roosevet’ in the Mediterranean 8 years ago, and launched 10 Tomahawk cruise missiles on targets in Kosovo that is being controlled by Serbia.
