Caribdude's Galaxies

Take a look at these at these three short YouTube Hubble videos to get some perspective.

I discovered these Galaxies on a site called Galaxy Zoo, a project set up online to enlist the help of anyone who wants to give it, to sort through a miillion or so Hubble images. You too can go and help, the site offers a short course and then you are free to go discover. Most of the images are not very exciting, some quite blury, but every now and then you come across something like those above. And you think to yourself, I'm the first person to ever see this.

This is really a great site for kids if you have any. It's also quite addictive for adults too so be careful. The organisers behind it estimated it would take about 1 month to sort through them all, but they have been getting so much traffic the past few days I expect it will be done in 2 weeks or less. So..... go take a look and discover some Galaxies while you still can.

For those who missed Michael Moore's appearance on CNN and his showdown with Dr. Gupta, you can see it here, part one and part two. The two met up later on Larry King Live and then Moore was on Keith Olbermann's Countdown.

I wonder if the movie will be shown here? Is anyone interested to see it? St. Maarten is planning a new health system which our local insurance companies are interested in, shouldn't you be interested too? I doubt Mega Plex will show it, they didn't show Inconvienient Truth, not sure if they showed Farenhiet 911. Perhaps Philipsburg Theaters will if we all drop them a line asking them to.

A primary reason Iraq and Afganistan are such a mess, aside from GW Bush's poor decision making skills, is the attitude and behavior of the troops. Cindy Sheehan got confronted by a 28%'er Bushie and he got firmly put in his place. And Kieth Olbermann had some pointed words to say about Michael Chertoff's Gut.

My eldest loves it, most images are quite boring visually, even if you do try to imagine that even if it is blury it respresents millions of stars just like our sun. Below are the choicest ones we discovered, we posted more on this page.

Tour of our universe's visible nebulae

Harry Potter is an enemy of God

The atheist's nightmare: the banana

Also some very interesting discussions well worth a look were started over on Agonist this past week by Ian Welsh, When All They Understand Is Fear or Force and Being Poor and this CNN report tells about the Iraq “success” story’s ugly side
