SXM PE is being discovered by more and more people, there are now over 100 registered users and more sign in everyday. Rather than advertising the site via the local media, we have chosen to let you, the visitors and users of the site spread the word by passing on the web address to those you think would be interested in it.

Because this site is user based, we would very much like to hear your opinions and suggestions on how it can be improved and sections you might like to see added. One change currently under discussion is to change the Front page to show the main stories and issues of the day, week or month. The sections currently shown would all be listed in the Main Threads list in the right hand column. The Front Page would show the main news stories that users may wish to discuss and articles posted by users.

The blogs would remain the same. These are for you to write your own opinions, letters or articles.

This is just under discussion at the moment and we would very much like to hear from you all. Please share your thoughts and ideas below, we want to make this site as user friendly as we can.

constitutional change
rastaman | Mon, 2006-01-09 15:11

Given the current leaders of St.Maarten,/St. Martin, and the upcomming constitutional "changes" comming to both sides, would YOU buy any property on the island?

Easy to answer
Flipper | Tue, 2006-01-10 21:20

Yes, I would, because it's my home, has been for most of my life.

My problem is if there anything nice that I can afford.

My answer therefore is based on different criteria than those looking for a holiday/retirement home and/or investment and I also hold the view that a limited moratorium should be placed upon development, in particular to large scale resorts and gated communities. How this is done and the exact details are beyond me to lay down, however it is clear, at least to me, that the local population is not really benefiting and we are creating big problems for the future.

My concerns are about where we will be in 20 or 30 years, our politicians only seem to see as far as Seperate Status and a 10 year Tour Map. There are bigger questions, like where will the children of today live, are we destroying some of the main reasons people come here by developing in the way we are, the environment and beauty of the island. Will locals always be so friendly? What will happen when the center of the island gets too crowded with all the low paid immigrants working at the expensive villa's and hotels around the coast. Oh, and traffic, and schools, and health, and social care, and crime, sewerage in the streets.

Now, if you are an an investor/ retiree etc, then it's probably very attractive to buy here, too much so I suspect. If it's gated then even better, at least there will be security guards, the only thing you would have to worry about is being held up or run off the road on the way back from dinner in Grand Case.

I think it's time for SXM to hold back the horses and take a more indepth look at where the island is headed. Shouldn't the island now be spending more time focusing on the local community and population, on the infrastructure and services, taking a much more cautious approach? How can we improve what we have, what about Mullet Bay? Are any of the current administration capable of looking 20 or 30 years ahead, do any of them care?

That's my opinion, time is running out for me to find somewhere nice on the island to raise my family, I better start looking before it's too late.

cupecoy beach
TAXRX | Mon, 2005-10-03 13:24

Has anyone been there recently Oct. 05? Is there a beach of any substance? On my last trip, there was virtually not a place to place a chair.
thanks

Go check the Cupecoy Thread
Local Hero | Tue, 2005-10-04 00:24

You'll find it in the list of Main Threads on the right.

I heard from a friend the other day that he saw Mr. London on the beach, not where the ditch is though, of course.

If anyone have any photos feel free to post them, Ill make sure they go in the Cupecoy thread.

Anyone care to import some of these?

Found on The Agonist

The site is looking great Flipper, glad you have more people starting to take an interest in it too. I got my new scanner a few weeks ago. I promise I will try to help out more here when I can. I like how it is layed out now myself. What would be good though is to add a link to Recent Comments next to the Recent Posts. Some comments seems to be spread out in various sections that many people may miss.

We need to purchase some of those bullshit protectors when we are going to attend the island council meeting. Any suggestion where they are being sold?

As per your request!
