Merx Works as Attorney despite Being Banned

From the website of SMN-News:

"Philipsburg:- Former and convicted Chief Prosecutor Cor Merx recently sent out a letter to a local woman requesting that the she or her family transfer a parcel of land to his client whom he claimed worked for the woman father in exchange for the land. The woman Cheryl Peterson went to Nation Talk President Leopold James desperately seeking advice as to how she should deal with the matter.

The letter which has a letter head of Cor Merx LLM, legal services, Interim Management, and Collections, Security Matters, which is located at 35 St. Rose Arcade Philipsburg states that his client Mr. Rulisse Etienne started working for her father as of June 1986 and in return the man would receive a parcel of land.
According to Merx the woman and her family did not co-operate with the transfer of the land to his client and he is asking that he be notified no later than June 19th 2007 whether or not the family will co-operate with the transfer.
Merx in his letter said that he is willing to make an appointment at the Notary office Schaepman & Speetjens where the woman would have to sign the deed.

The letter further states that if the woman (Peterson) decided to keep the land then she would have to pay Etienne damages, which the convicted prosecutor is willing to discuss. Failure to comply with either of the two requests Merx said he will take the necessary measures to have the woman give what he said his client deserved, at which the woman would have to pay the required costs for lawyers will be at the woman’s account.

Cor Merx who has been convicted last year for the misuse of his power when he tapped his former girlfriend phone and for requesting information falsely has been banned by the Court of First Instance to work as a lawyer in the Netherlands Antilles. Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein confirmed that Merx cannot represent anyone in a court of law, even though he can be present with anyone who may want to hire him as they conduct private business."

So let let get this straight. The courts banned him to ever work as a prosecutor again; They banned him to be an attorney; He is on probation for serious crimes committed while being a prosecutor but the Government still lets him practice as an legal advisor and security advisor. What kind of signal to society is that? Didn't he need to submit a clean police record when applying for a business license?

I wonder! Is that a story being made up? I it is, I suggest you get your fact straight and play the game based on the truth and not hate.

Thanks!

what story are you talking about?
Flipper | Fri, 2007-06-22 15:48

The one about the piece of land? It's true. The one about Merx leaving the island, three people tell me he was at the airport yesterday and left for suriname, so it seems to be likely to be true. Operating as a legal advisor even though convicted of fraud as a top legal official, that's true too.

Hate? Game? What are you talking about? Get real and learn what a blog is.

You got your facts wrong
O Psilos | Thu, 2007-06-21 10:13

Posts like this intrigue me, especially because of the link between Merx and Marcel Loor, as revealed in another post.
But in this case, you have the facts wrong. Merx got a one year conditional prison sentence with two years probation. The court also forbid him to work in any function in public prosection in the Netherlands Antilles for a period of five years.
Nowhere does it say that the court barred Merx from working as a lawyer or legal advisor.

Facts right

It appears to me that the facts are straight. I was told that Merx was advised not to apply to the bar to save him the embarrassment of being publicly rejected. It makes sense. If you convicted for on the job fraud while working in the legal field why would you still qualify to work as an attorney. I guess the same standards of admittance apply for both prosecutor and attorney. You have to have a clean record. Why do you think he is not admitted to the bar yet?

That means he can represent people in court

Does this mean Merx can go to Court and Represent people. He can give legal advice and comduct legal business transactions... Are you implying that this man can physically go to Court and Represent anyone.
How did he get his buisness licence did he not have to produce a certificate of Good Record??? Seems like the Dutch understands the Dutch Better Here

Merx was never accepted to the bar
Anonymous (not verified) | Thu, 2007-06-21 13:26

If I am not mistaken, Merx was never accepted to the bar.
So he cannot function as a lawyer.
He can work as a legal consultant which is what he is doing.
This may be what Rakham failed to mention? please correct me if I am wrong.

The one thing that no one can do is take away his degree in Law, so I believe that as long as he keeps up with the various laws and principals,he can always give advise when asked and I am sure he is asked by many.

I personally happen to like Cor Merx.

Many criminals are very likeable people. Merx is probably not the exception to that rule. Keep in mind though that he wasn't prosecuted because he was well liked by you or others. He was prosecuted for fraud.

I have looked with amazement how this man behaved before and after he was dethroned. He is the perfect example of a narcissist. The narcissistic personality has many characteristics: Grandiosity that makes them think they can do, think, fake, tackle anything. The fantasies of unlimited power, beauty, intelligence, wealth, fame, etc; Cold-eyed charm and arrogance, whether overt or covert; They tend to be harshly judgmental of others and they are extremely manipulative; usually highly skilled at “pushing buttons” or redirecting criticism and largely or entirely guiltless about the harm done to others. And above all the love for themself. That is the Merx we have seen in the media and still see everyday going around in his suits and ties.

You happen to like him. I personally happen to dislike him. High ranking law enforcement officers that are involved in crime are the most common factors contributing to the collapse of a society. For that he can not be liked by anyone despite his mask of charm.

I find it strange that someone who posts that Cor Merx was prosecuted for fraud, goes on to then give a complete character analysis. "a perfect example of a narcissist", followed by choice words the describe said affliction. I agree with you, he was prosecuted for fraud, and that's why I don't like him. But what you wrote leads me to believe that what the previous poster is another character profile: one that deems himself (or herself) the one to judge others and group them into categories based on groundless information (or lack there of). Your whole post was a merx bashing statement, which is fine, but don't color it otherwise. If he's a narcissist then you are a underachieving wannabe that takes pride in writing down the "apparent" flaws of someone to "prove" a point. If this post that I'm writing makes me sound like a complete hypocrit, then I did my job. I don't know you , i just read your post and made a conclusion. so did you. And for the record, I agree with you..."High ranking law enforcement officers that are involved in crime are the most common factors contributing to the collapse of a society." But judge not lest though be judged.
