IGY Plans for St. Maarten Shipyard
As part of IGY’s mission to offer a comprehensive, reliable network of yachting services throughout the world, we have commenced development of a state of the art shipyard facility in the heart of the Caribbean. This facility will be strategically located on the duty-free island of St. Maarten, which is situated approximately 1275 miles east, south-east of Miami and 200 miles east of San Juan, Puerto Rico. In order to maximize yard efficiency, the yard will be equipped with a 600 metric ton marine travelift boat hoist and a 200-ton hydraulic trailer. Specialists from around the world will have access to the facility, which is conveniently located less than a quarter of a mile from the Princess Juliana International Airport.

The St. Maarten shipyard will offer a level of service and quality of work which exceeds what captains and yacht owners have come to expect from similar facilities in the US and Europe. This type of haul out facility is unprecedented in the Caribbean and is a testament to Island Global Yachting’s commitment to developing the yachting industry in the region.

how much filling again?

So how much of the lagoon will be filled to accomodate this shipyard?
Aren't we done yet with filling the lagoon? with PJIA being the largest lagoon taker? Do any of the politicians have a vision as to upgrading SimpsonBay? sidewalks? streetlights? parking facilities? seagrape and coconut tree replanting, why do I have a feeling that more of the lagoon will be filled like is being done to the Great Salt Pond to make way for these things in the future as they are incompetent to deal with this now.
Our building ordinance need a modern twist, we need zoning, our SimpsonBay Lagoon should be inventorised. The island needs a sewage plant to deal with runoff from land and boats, and SLAC needs teeth. This being said, SLAC should not have board members who are affiliated with any of the marinas, this will create a conflict of interest.
it seems as if the dutch side lagoon will become more commercial than offering recreational activities such as fishing, pleasure boating, waterskiing, kayaking, How much more can the island and the lagoon and ponds accomodate before we lose all sense of the natural environment?

I wasn't sure

Which is why I put the questionmark in the title.

Island Global Yachting already operates in St. Martin, where it manages three megayacht facilities, Isle de Sol and Port de Plaisance and Portofino.

IGY is also, Dock Maarten, near the cruise pier of Philipsburg on St. Martin.

Dock Maarten is private and IGY isn't managing that property.
