Do Not Create Another Fiasco Like the Intaquin Affair

Willy Haize

Philipsburg: - Advisor to the United Federation Union Willy Haize in an interview with SMN News said that the Commissioner Roy Marlin should leave GEBE alone.
The unionist were reacting a newspaper article where the commissioner stated his dissatisfaction on statements made by the new Managing Director of GEBE William Brooks who took over management of the company from former manager Julius Lambert who is now on pension.
Haize said that the manager maybe new and the commissioner needs to leave him alone as he expresses his views of the water company and its debts and the decision that government has taken with the contracting of water production.
“Marlin should remember the fiasco he created with the Intaquin Affair and deals he made, and the commissioner should learn from his mistakes and not make the same mistakes again with the Air-Fin or Enerserve.
Haize said that if there is one company that would know how to manage water production on St. Maarten it would be GEBE; because they have the experience and more so contracting the production of water only creates more debts.
He said that giving the contract to any of other company would jeopardize the workers of GEBE, something the union will not take lightly.
The veteran unionist said that he did not intend to intervene in saga that is presently taking place but seeing the direction in which the commissioner is heading warrants him as the union representing the company to intervene.
He urged Marlin to stay away from the GEBE Affair as he is not going to compromise the information he has.

In recent weeks the new manager of GEBE who took office at the beginning of this year has been voicing his concerns in the media about the decisions the Executive Council has taken in the refusing to renew the Enerserve contract or even rewarding a new company a contract when GEBE can do the job themselves if proper investments are made in the government owned company. Presently the company has a debt which ranges between 12 million to 17 million guilders which is also a topic of discussion in the media.
