Leader of Government Expresses Sincere Condolences to Family of Garbage Collector
Philipsburg:- Leader of Government Sarah Wescot-Williams has expressed her sincere condolences to the family of the garbage collector who was killed early Monday morning while executing his duties.
The garbage truck driver who is 55-years old and from Santo Domingo was pinned by a private car which slammed in the truck from behind, which was parked on Union Road as they were picking up garbage in the area.
Police confirmed the man suffered two broken legs, he later succumbed to the injuries at the St. Maarten Medical Center that same day.
Meanwhile, SMN News have confirmed with personnel of the Ambulances services that when they received the call for help they were told that the man suffered minor injuries, due to that information the ambulance dispatcher decided to send the ambulance to Oyster Pond where someone was waiting to be transported to SMMC as the person fell ill during the night.
The ambulance finally arrived in Cole-Bay about 35 minutes after the first call was placed. During this time the victim was bleeding profusly as he sustained a gaping wound to the bak of his legs.
Meanwhile, reliable sources informed SMN News that when the injured man arrived at the St. Maarten Medical Center, there were a long delay as the hospital administration was busy making sure the man was covered by the Social Insurance Bank.
In an invited comment President of the St. Maarten Medical Center Board, Bobby Valesquez said that the medical institution has implemented a process where it must be confirmed if patients have insurance since the hospital he said just came out of a huge debt of twenty five million guilders. Valesquez said that there are a number of companies who have people working for them and are not insuring their workers and the hospital he said can no longer carry the burden.
Valesquez has promised to give a full report as to what exactly took place at the hospital as he was in a meeting up to press time last night with the board of the hospital where he said he is expected to be fully informed of the incident.
SMN News will bring you more information on this case as it develops.
