Global Warming - UN IPCC Report

Today the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released it's fourth assessment since 1990, concluding with near certainty (+90%) that carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping greenhouse gases from human activities are causing Global Warming. The cut off for information for this report was Dec 2005 and since then more data has been recorded, leaving some scientists to declare that the report Is too optimistic, in particular in regards to projected sea level rises.

Links to the report, video of the presentation and more can be found below.

UN InterGovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report - The Pysical Science Basis - 2nd Feb 2007

If you find 21 pages too much and time tight then you can go read what the Guardian and the BBC have to say. The BBC link has a video in the top right of the page, if you open it and watch you will also find the link to the presentation video of the report.

Meanwhile, the oil business still refuses to acknowledge reality and has now sent out letters offering scientist up to $10,000, travel expenses and more, to discredit and debunk the UN IPCC report. The Democratic hearings in the US are revealing how the White House pressured climate scientists and distorted science for political and idiological ends, one representative calling it "stunning".

It's not like this is any big secret being revealed, Jim Hanson, the top guy in the US on climate change was telling 60 minutes about it back in March 2006. You Tube video here. After posting a record annual profit for 2006, one wonders how these people sleep at night.

The Canadian Environment commissioner gets sacked, apparently because her views were too strong for the anti Kyoto minority Conservative Govt. And Australia, who have not signed Kyoto are starting to wonder if they should take it all a bit more seriously.

And if the World didn't have enough things to worry about, population growth is adding more gloom and doom to look forwards to. Another inconvenient truth about us as a race and civilization that people really just don't want to think about. At least we have Superbowl Sunday to look forwards to this weekend eh?

Last of all, the UK has decided that all pupils in public schools are to be given lessons in climate change. I would go one further and also make it manditory for all politicians to have the same classes.

Hope to have informed you well.
