Al Gore comes to St. Maarten

Sadly not in person, but in the form of the movie An Inconvenient Truth, which will be showing at Philipsburg Theaters next week. On 7pm Tuesday 28th November there will be a special showing, in aid of the Sint Maarten Pride Foundation. PLS will be providing alcohol to those that need it, probably most of us after watching the movie.

There are still a few sceptics out there on Global Warming, but they are few and far between, the arguments have moved on from questioning if GW is real to acceptance that human behavior is responsible and what effects it will have. Really though, you don't need to be a scientist to know that we are destroying our World.

And neither do you need to be a scientist to do something about it and although St. Maarten is small and virtually irrelivant in the big picture, we are compelled to try. St. Maarten alone cannot make a difference, but a thousand St. Maarten's might, there thousands of communities, towns and cities around the World who are trying, we should be one of them.

SXM Pride is one of several enviro groups on the island trying to make a difference and if you yourself are not playing an active role, you should consider the option of supporting those that are. Politicians follow the people, environmental awareness and education is growing, but it needs to grow much faster.
