Some tourists just don't know.

And as another comment says, I don't want to discourage people from coming here, but at the same time, much of what we discuss and talk about on here is discouraging, whether we talk about it or not. My own thinking is that by talking about it we are putting pressure on the authorites to deal with it and realise that they are destroying the character of the island that has bought us so many loyal tourist friends over the years, we are replacing them with people who may only stay once.
I think there are many people who have been coming here years who do truely love the island, I think we are losing many of those people now because of the mass construction, crowded roads and rise in crime. But some do care enough to want to help us residents make a difference. These people are not the same as cruise ship tourists, they have friends here and it is like a second home in many ways.
If we can convince a few to support or donate to organisations like SXM Pride, SXM PE, Nature Foundation, Ocean Care, Animal Welfare and Animals R Friends plus others then it helps some. It can't hurt to try. You don't have to get involved with politics to make a difference, something I thing many of those visitors are wary of doing, although they do care and want to help.
