New Sint Maarten status regarding sports: FIFA and IOC
Anonymous (not verified) | Sun, 2007-01-21 14:59

Dear friends,

According the latest news, it seems that at the end Sint Maarten will walk totally separated from Curacao, since Curacao's position is to negoiciate alone directly with the Kingdom, leaving Sint Maarten alone in matters such as finance and policing.

Anyway...

The matter I whant to talk the most is about sports:

Reading the Article "H" paragraph 1.

" (...)
H. Observing international obligations and supporting the legislative process

1. The new entities must also observe the international obligations which were entered into by the Kingdom and for which the Netherlands Antilles have requested joint responsibility. The treaties which have already been implemented by the Netherlands Antilles shall be fully applicable in Curacao and Sint Maarten.
(...) "

When achieving the new status:

Will Sint Maarten and Curacao be able to take part in the Olympic Games, Panam Games, etc, in an independent way and under their own flags?

Will Sint Maarten and Curacao be able to present a football (soccer) team each in the World Cup and Cocacaf qualifyings (under their respective flags)?
