WILLEMSTAD – Sea lion Chi-chi has not survived her two-week freedom. On Sunday afternoon, coastal residents in the north-western part of Venezuela found the sea lion that escaped from the Sea Aquarium in Curacao. She refused to eat and died later. She was probably very sick. After having lived in the aquarium for 16 years, Chi-chi decided to go on a trip in August. She crawled through a small hole in the barrier and didn’t want to come back for food. A few days later she was spotted on a beach in Venezuela and later on the northern coast of Aruba. According to Sea Aquarium, the sea lion could have survived in the open sea, because inside the aquarium she also had to catch living fish to eat.
