Oil spill on Simpson bay and Mullet Bay beaches
SXM PRIDE (not verified) | Tue, 2005-06-14 00:03

As you may have heard, today there was very large oil-spil that affected the Simpson Bay Beach, Mullet Bay Beach and Cupeccoy. Scource of the oil-spill remains unknown, however environmentalists believe it originated from GEBE Cape bay area.
The area at BEACH SIDE villas was the hardest hit. The local ENVIRO groups are wondering when the local government will insist that all marinas, fuel bulk
stations, gas stations and others dealing with fuel products will include a contingency plan to cleanup oil spills.
As it is now, no one wants to cleanup, no one wants to be blamed for the damage to the environment. From what I heard, persons had to leave the beaches as the slick and smell was pretty bad. Our government has to put a contigency plan in place for oil-spills, just like what they have for Hurricanes under the disaster management team.
