The Commissioner of tourism said in response the beautification of the Round about of Sucker Garden road critics that these project are financed largely by the Sint Maarten harbor company, he made mentioned of this due to the fact that some people were criticizing the financing of these project by the above mentioned company.
The commissioner justified the financing of the project by stating these are tourism related projects. The cost of this project was around 3.6 million gulden or 2 million dollars.
Where am I going with this, well the Emilio Wilson Estate has the potential of becoming a tourist attraction if developed correctly.
Should the Government buy this project sure, can they finance it of course they can, if you look at all the projects that this company (Harbor) has financed you’ll be surprise it’s not in the range of some 7 million gulden or 3.8 million dollars in total or may be more.
1. The Board walk phase one and phase two,
2. Front Street Beautification projects phase one and phase two.
3. The Square in front of the Court house.
4. The round about at the Maho and Beacon Hill junction including the Airport road Beautification that is leading up to the round about with the three palm palm trees planted along side of it.
5. Parking facility along side Walter Nisbeth Road (a.k.a: Pondfill Road)
I’m not advocating that the government spend all that money at once on the estate, but I’m pretty sure they can put together a financial package lasting five (5) years. Looking at the Estate going price of 4.1 million dollars that will put us in the range of some 820.000 dollars a year, that is way less than the cost price of the Sucker Garden round about and surrounding area beautification project which cost some 3.6 million gulden or 2 million dollars.
Hope this will happen, as for me I can see this plan come to realization if executed properly.
