EWE on the chopping block.

Back in November I wrote an article about Emilio Wilson Estate and it was followed up in January by Dr. Voodoo with this useful compilation of the story so far.
Things are about to heat up again, the court case against government by Emilio Wilson Estate B.V will be heard today (Thursday?), whilst Roy Marlin sits on the archaeological report presented to him in February.

SXM PE wants a copy of that report.

I have a question.

Is there any reason that the whole report should not be public?

I'm not versed in Antillian or Dutch laws or government administration but I can see no reason why it should not be. It seems to me that the foundations opposed to the development of the estate should have demanded a copy and that it be made public the day after Roy got it. Perhaps someone out there can answer?

Yes, I say demand, because as we all know, requests for information tend to take several months to be "processed". The information in this report is of great interest to the community and to those who would like to see the estate preserved.

As layed out in Dr. Voodoo's posting, they failed in forming the 3 man committee and Roy has been caught lying again because back in October last year he assured us that Govt would be willing to work with the Emilio Wilson Estate Foundation which campaigned to have the estate preserved. As far as I am aware, up until today, the government has yet to contact the EWEF despite their requests for a meeting.

(Roy does not "see eye to eye" with environmental groups on the island and it just so happens that at least two senior board members of the EWEF are affiliated with two of those "kind" of groups.

In the March 23rd Herald article Roy mentions that the department of VROM has a heavy load at this time and he can't say when the report would be ready. READY? Is he planning to edit or tamper with a professional archaeologist's work? As for VROM, tell us something we don't know. The staff at VROM are understaffed, poorly equiped and quite probably intimidated by Roy to follow his bidding.

Roy, Louie and the rest of the DP all claimed to want to preserve the estate, yet not once have they shown any sign making it happen. They appear to be talking what those red trucks pump.

The fight to preserve the estate needs to be stepped up. The foundations and organisations fighting to preserve this estate must demand that the full report be made public, not at some vague future date, but now!

They must demand that a moritorium on major developments be enacted until such a time as the VROM and other government departments are capable of handling the work load.

And they must demand that a study be made on development and the impact it is having on the island, it's environment and it's community.

Otherwise kiss goodbye to EWE and Redpond.

Maria Buncamper Molanus shared her thoughts on development with us two days ago. She really should take a closer look at the people she hangs out with if it's really what she believes. Or perhaps it's just more of what the red trucks pump.
