Johan de Vrieze - Consultant for the Chamber of Commerce

I understand through the media that Mr. De Vrieze will be appointed as a consultant for the Chamber of Commerce in connection with the issue of Crime on Sint Maarten.
As a business organization I wonder why management has not requested a public input in regards to the requirement that the Chamber thinks they need in order to be able to combat this issue. A general call for input would have been a better approach then to appoint a former prosecutor. My questions are as folllows:

- What kind of support or program has Mr. de Vrieze put into place while he was a prosecutor on the island.?

- Can any one informed me what he has done during his stay on the island besides his professional responsibility.?

- Was he active in any social or other groups which was helpful to the overall devellopment and progress of Sint Maarten?

- Was it not possible to find another competent sources which could have provided the chamber with the necessary information. ?

I believe there are many out there who are willing to be part or to assist and help curb crime because crime is everybody's business. Our failure all the time is integration. My recommendation is to call on the general public for input and after this take a decision. Neverthelss in closing I want to point out that crime is a combination of factors. It requires a cooperation of all stake holders to be part of this program. Single handed we will not be able to solve this problem. It is like a football team. Every position has a part to play in the game and if each position plays well then we will see the results.
