MARIGOT, The family of Angélique Chauviré is upset with authorities about the slow pace of the investigation into the woman’s murder that took place two years ago.
Chauviré was brutally murdered on June 1, 2006. Her body was found the next day on the Dutch part of the island, between Oyster Pond and Middle region.
The victim’s family has expressed its dissatisfaction with the fact that law enforcement has so far failed to solve the crime. In an interview with a French newspaper, the family blames the investigation’s slow progress on the fact that the island is divided in a Dutch and a French part.
While Chauviré body was found on the Dutch side, the Public Prosecutor’s Office told Today last year that the investigation is in the hands of French authorities. The Dutch will give assistance on demand. The only suspect the French have interviewed in connection with the case is Kathron Fortune, a 29-year old man from Grenada who serves a twenty one-year sentence at the Pointe Blanche prison for the cold-blooded murder of his acquaintance Ervin Margarita on May 11 2006, just a couple of weeks before Chauviré’s murder. Fortune has reportedly been seen in the woman’s company on the night of the murder, but so far he has not been charged.
Chauviré’s sister Isabelle told the French newspaper that she is becoming very impatient with the authorities. “I want to get things moving. They keep telling us that this will take a long time. It seems to me that so many things are happening over there that Angélique’s file has landed at the bottom of the pile.”
