Governor did not Notify Executive Council on Resignation of Maria - 3rd July 2008

From SMN News

Philipsburg: ---- Even though Commissioner Maria Buncamper Molanus said publicly that she was making her seat available to the island council on Monday June 9 and also submitted a written copy of her resignation to the Chairman of the island council Franklyn Richards. Leader of government Sarah Wescot Williams said that it was only last Tuesday the Executive Council received official notification of the resignation from Richards which is an obligation by law. She said now that they have that notification they would be requesting an Island Council meeting to deal with the resignation within short.

Wescot Williams said that last Monday the National Alliance submitted another letter to the island council where they stated that the commissioner should now relinquish her seat in the island council. Wescot Williams said the National Alliance should have submitted a letter requesting another island council meeting to deal with the no confidence motion which was passed on June 9. “After the no confidence motion was passed the NA has to request another meeting to continue the process.” Wescot Williams said.

Wescott Williams said that in the near future the Democratic Party will be appointing a new commissioner if that is necessary.

Asked about the letter that was published in the newspaper from a profound Democrat and former commissioner concerning the Sky is the Limit Foundation and TELEM donation. The island leader said that everyone had put in their two cents in this matter. She also confirmed that Franklyn Meyers did submit his resignation and this she said would not hamper government instead they would be dealing with the resignation internally.

Wescot Williams also confirmed the resignation of two board members of the TELEM supervisory board. She said contact was made with the shareholder representative on Monday afternoon he confirmed receipt of resignation letters from at least two of the members of TELEM.

She said when this happens they have to deal with this matter by re-appointing new members to make sure they meet the legal limit.
