Please don't take offence at the title of my comment, but it seems to me you have been missing quite a lot. Perhaps you should take a browse through this website, which now holds over 11,000 news stories, photos and blogs going back over 3 years. Try the main page blogs, or the Environment Thread, SXM Pride Thread, or the Nature Foundation Thread.

The alarm bells have been ringing for years, maybe you just got used to the noise that you didn't notice it anymore. Have you been sitting on the sidelines? Perhaps you should get up and get involved, join an Environmental watchdog as you call them, go to the events they organize, help them fundraise, write letters to the papers.

I'm glad more and more citizens are starting to sit up and take notice, but in the end they should not rely on others who volunteer and sacrifice their time, energy and finances to do all the work for them. If you want to know who is responsible for the state of the island, it's environment, its culture and the slow and gradual degradation of it's friendly and beautiful character, look to the DP and the people who voted for them. They have been running the show most of the last 40 odd years haven't they?
