As much as I agree with some of statements. I cant help but to point out the fact that the problems we are facing in Sxm are not different than in the rest of the world:
- rising crime
- rising cost of living
- talk of corruption
- infrastructure needing upgrades
- decline in educational excellence etc etc
We can go on and on. There is one thing that I do believe that our Government CAN do to ease the burden of us all, this is the following:
- make Government leaner and outsource/concession non-essential Govt. tasks
We all know that the private sector is more equipped to offer better customer service and overall value of product, equally true is that Gov. doesn't do a good enough job in training staff and optimizing its services.
Therefore, if Gov would focus on making laws and policies more efficient, the need for more civil servants would diminish.
You are right commenter, how this Govt. is going about it, our citizens are baring the brunt of their inefficiences. Growing staff, growing budgets, more taxes less quality service.
In my opinion if Gov would move towards small Govt., we would be better off and have less need for more taxes and better yet reduce some taxes like TOT and foreign exchange etc. that we were promissed would end since January 1, 2000!
All over the world & back to sxm
