The Sint Maarten PRIDE foundation is calling on all
volunteers to participate in the upcoming
International Coastal Cleanup on September 15th. 2007
Mullet bay beach is the location and time is from
7am-9:30am.
The local ICC has always drawn a large volunteer base
from the local Mohican scout group, the Hibiscus scout
group, The learning Unlimted school, the Interact
clubs, The LIONS and LEOS joined in last year.
The CIA school and the AUC medical school.
In addition many animal and environmental volunteers
from the various local foundations are always present
to help volunteer as well.
The Sint Maarten PRIDE foundation will have gloves and
trash bags available and ICC data cards for all
volunteers.
VOLVIC water will be supplied by Caribbean liquors and
tobacco.
The International Coastal Cleanup is a worldwide event
held on the same day in many countries around the
world.
The data results are sent on to the Ocean Conservancy
in Washington DC to be compiled into a worldwide
report.
This report is used in many countries to determine
what trash is left behind at beaches and waterways or
is being washed up.
The report is used by many countries to lobby
government to make environmental changes to laws,
policies and change behaviors that cause pollution.
The report is also used to lobby the large coorporate
bussiness world to introduce environmentally consumer
goods and packaging.
While September 15th. is the Grand day for the ICC,
PRIDE is also inviting all schools to participate on
their own time during the month of September.
