Very good Pride Foundation and Nature Foundation! I hope the politicians will finally see that a society doesn't need economic growth only. It is not only about prosperity in this world, but also about well being. People need open spaces, green areas, clean water and rest. Since Claude Wathey emphasis was put entirely on more and faster economic growth, the DP administration has proven that it can find every empty spot on St Maarten to build on. OK, this has brought prosperity to this tiny island, but in my opinion the well being for the people is almost minimized.
Maybe the times are changing now (you can never hope too much!!). Politicians posing with non-plastic bags was a good start (but are they using them?). The proposal of councilman Frans for environmental taxes was smart. But they can do better!! I hope the ExCo will develop a vision on the ecology on and around the island. I hope that it finally comes with legislationon zoning and nature protection and I hope that it comes to a wise decision on Little Key, Emilio Wilson Estate and the several other - small but important - open and green places on St Maarten.
